I am starting to DJ one night a week at this Ultralounge in Indianapolis. I am going to be playing a good mix of old and new alternative and indie music. We need to start putting print ads together and I have no idea of what to call this "Indie / Alt" night.

Any creative ideas? I have been milling this over in my head for a week and I got nothin'!

Please help, any input is appreciated.

Oh yeah..and check out their website

I did end up calling it better music night. Did it for about a year and then got tired of the place. Another guy does it now but does not play nearly as tasty tunes as I

Wouldn't it be great if Frank started wearing stuff like this at shows? I mean, the top portion of Lee's shirt kind of resembles Frank's western shirt.

Siam, if you really want people to come to your club night you should call it "Free Beer".

I kept resisting the urge to suggest "Free Blow Job Night". With college buddies our joke whenever we pulled up to a ballgame with a big crowd was always, "Oh, must be free blow job night."

There was a band in Davis named "Free Beer" a few years back. Their fliers always had FREE BEER in a huge font.

Is this the "Savoy Restaurant & Ultra Lounge" "Ice Ultra Lounge" "Gelo Ultra Lounge" "Subterra"

Savoy is the name of a famous dance hall in Harlem,

Savoy, the home of sweet romance
Savoy, it wins you at a glance
Savoy, give happy feet a chance
to dance

Your form, just like a clingy vine
Your lips, so warm and sweet as wine
Your cheek, so soft and close to mine
Devine

How my heart is singin'
While the band is swingin'
Never tired of rompin'
Stompin' with you, at the Savoy
What joy

A perfect holiday
Savoy, where we can glide and sway
Savoy, they'll let me stomp away
with you

Chick Webb would kill'm

I might pinch this one.

How about 'Tipp City', 'Mom's Drunk', 'Bragging Party', 'First Revival', Full On Idle' or 'Empty Glasses'? All from Pacer of course.

Siam, if you really want people to come to your club night you should call it "Free Beer".

seriously though, you need a sexy name (and a sexy flyer). here are some i thought of for you:

Girl-on-Girl Stereo
Sexual Chocolate (if you want to throw in some R&B)
Music inspired by Laetitia Casta
Asian Cheerleader
Indie Slut Night

Sexy is good. I especially like the Laetitia Casta reference - she has to be the sexiest woman alive. I bought her picture book a couple years ago and somehow she became more sexy.

how about some stereolab or stephen malkmus-pencil riot and frank black-hang onto your ego

I really just wish that there were more "ideas" - I am at a loss.
Stereo is okay
Stereo, fuck yeah - I like better.
Better music Night sounded cool after 9 Grey Goose & Tonics - but I don't know

Need something with a "ring" to it...

Any more ideas....
hammerhands Posted - 05/04/2006 : 06:48:56
If you reference the name of the location it will make the manager happy.

Ultra-something or Altra-something.

tisasawath Posted - 05/03/2006 : 23:55:12
hmmm, it has to be something to make it really discernible, like

Random Audio XP Proffesional Edition v3.96 beta Gold w/ Exp. pack
(followed by a list of added features and fixed issues and such)

but for punch this wins

Homers pet monkey you can guest DJ anytime. If you would like to come to INdy - but why?
ObfuscateByWill Posted - 05/03/2006 : 12:03:53
Stereo is good. Simple.

-

How 'bout Disco Hospital?

Or ...even more pretentious... Plateau Phase!

C'mon. Either a Coil song or Crispy Ambulance. Cred out the arse, mang.

The problem with a song/band reference is that it implies that it might be a tribute night to those that are going only off the name.

Not if you stipulate that it's a indie/alt club night underneath on the fliers/posters.

------------------
Nimrod's Son: tribute to t'Pixies - Live @ The Venue, New Cross, London - Fri 2nd June
www.myspace.com/doog = solo choons
www.myspace.com/casabonitaband = noisey stuff
www.myspace.com/weevilknievel = surfrockpop geekery
www.myspace.com/ukpixiestribute = Nimrod's Son

I said for people just going off the name. Like people who hear the name word of mouth, or just see it listed in the paper.
