never was a fan but for $1.00 i brought home a very clean cassette of 'More Songs About Buildings And Food'.
listened to it straight through on headphones and was knocked over even though i was laying down. what a joy music can be.

i'm inclined to agree. every album has its own personality and is all the more wonderful for it.

little creatures for instance. Television Man + Road to Nowhere. what a fucking bonkers melodic combo.

naked- half the tunes are fucking brilliant and the other half are fucking great.

and the rest of the albums... oh, sweet jesus.

I suppose 'Sax and Violins' counts as being part of 'Naked', since it's on the reissue.

'Fear of Music' is my favourite album.
trobrianders Posted - 07/26/2009 : 01:35:56
Long opening to The Democratic Circus on underappreciated Naked. Joy. And mesmeric Facts of Life, admittedly the only other great number on that record.

David Byrne is one of my heroes. I almost shat my pants when out I found he was coming to Athens on July 6 (the day after my wedding). Ran out and bought third row tickets! yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

And yeah, if you haven't seen the movie True Stories, check it soon! The whole movie is streaming on youtube. i bought my copy at wal-mart for five bucks.

And I would pass that along to the drummer but it would go straight to his head.

I know! I like both songs. The drummer is tight.
Thanks for reminding me of them.

The waxworks were an immensely eloquent dissertation on the wonderful ordinariness of mankind.

"Dream Operator" is a fantastic. For as abstract and weird as David Byrne came across, he could really write a good pop song, too.
trobrianders Posted - 05/12/2007 : 04:54:37
No one ever mentions True Stories but it's fucking wonderful.

Little Creatures is fucking awesome. For some reason I had the idea that the Talking Heads post-Remain in Light weren't that great. How wrong I was.
Plus, I bought the Dualdisc version, remixed and with extra tracks and videos, at bargain price. Yay.

I found Pere Ubu's Cloudlands, Bryan Ferry's Girls and Boys AND Throwing Muses' 'Hunkpapa' (even though I already had it) in the same charity shop, all 50p!

The best concert film ever. The version of "Slippery People" in that film is just sublime.

The "Goo Goo Ga Ga Ga" part at the end is so cool. You can't help singing along and dancing over it.

i'd listen to podcasts if they worked for me, i'm sure the problem is on my end.
i'm glad you folks posted your favorite talking heads albums it's one of my reasons for the topic, tips, ya know?
kathryn Posted - 04/06/2006 : 19:11:59
not to sound like i am hawking my wares, but my little fb.net podcast features some byrne tunes, in additon to my babbling on incomprehensively about, you know, stuff.

Used tapes and vinyl are a great way to try new music, instead of $16 for a CD, I got "Nashville Skyline" on vinyl for $2.

I liked the Talking Heads but I didn't have any of their records until I got "Sand In The Vaseline" on cassette for $4.99 at Newburry Comics. I really liked it and started buying their albums. (All on tape, except "77" "More Songs" and "Creatures".

By the way, the "Naked" album is cool- the cassette is YELLOW!

I just sold a bunch of old tapes because now I've got the songs I like on the computer, but I kept some, including my most prized tape: Throwing Muses first album that I got, of all places, at some small record store in the ghetto.

I'll give you that. Although they do have their uses (portable MP3 players). Basically they should only make portable MP3 players.
