Sure, it's an ambitious, nay, implausible question, perhaps ridiculous and certainly subjective. Let's go for it anyway.

What is the best song ever and why?

similarly i agree with one of the first posts in this thread proclaiming "nothing but flowers" as the best song in the world. i definitely feel comfortable giving the title to something by Talking Heads. seems right to me.

How about the deranged swamp of Love For Sale by Talking Heads? It might as well be the best song in the world for all anyone cares.

The original Townes Van Zandt version of 'Pancho & Lefty'. Had a voice as oaky and mellow as a fine malt whiskey.

Blue Oyster Cult have tons of great songs. Flaming Telepaths, Astronomy, Vera Gemini, In Thee, Goin' Through The Motions, etc.

Today I'd say Saint Huck - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

The best song in the world is I've Been Loving You Too Long by Otis Redding.

Reminds me of the time we used to play the longest songs on the jukebox just to piss off the pub.

Who stole my picture?

yeah, hearing a Doors song would certainly make me much more eager to die

It goes without saying that this is a tough but intriguing discussion. Top of the tree I would have 'the world is turning on' by the Pooh Sticks. This would be followed by 'Sweet baby James' also performed by the Pooh sticks. My reasoning is that their just infectious, beautiful pop songs which always make me feel better about everything in general.

1. Debaser
2. (tie) How Soon is Now? (Smiths) and Jane Says (Jane's Addiction)
3. Waiting Room (Fugazi)

ok i really went off topic

It's a toss up between Distance Equals Rate Times Time by the Pixies and Night Fever by the Bee-Gees.

reasons why: DERTT = cuz it's such a filler of a song and seems tossed together without much thought

Night Fever = cuz it makes me dance

Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey.
