I think that would be the greatest job ever. You get to the office on Monday morning, go over to your desk and computer area, and there's a Cd on your desk and a note "Here are a few tracks from the Pixies album that's coming out next year. Listen to it and see what you can come up with". So you have some coffee, pop in the CD, and go on the computer and try different fonts and colors. Maybe after lunch you go over to the library to check out some art books for inspiration.

The Oz books haven't been particularly popular in decades, but everyone who reads them wants to write their own.
I actually had an Oz story published in the International Wizard of Oz Club's fiction magazine recently. It's the first thing I've ever had published, so I'm proud of it, even though I'm sure it's nothing to all the forum members who've had scholarly research papers published. I also have a completed Oz manuscript, although it's a very rough draft.
Oh, and I'm a counter-example to the idea that all Pixies fans start their own bands. Oh, well.

Man, I wouldn't consider that to be nothing at all, even compared to all the eggheads around here. And if you ever want someone to proofread your Oz manuscript, I'm your guy. The last time I read any Oz stories was reading the original to my older daughter (before she was born in 2002, so I actually read it to my wife's stomach...) Hopefully she'll get into them when she gets old enough to start reading.

Something involving doing research in Oz books. Although it might cease to be fun if it were work.

When I was about 7, I used to write sequels to the Oz books, and had the notion that I'd become the next in line to write the series. I don't think I ever read any farther than Ruth Plumly Thompson's run, though.

I have to say centerfielder for the Red Sox (batting third).
Being more reasonable, statistician for the Red Sox. I really wanted to do that as a kid, but thought it impossible. Now I know people with those kind of jobs, and dammit I could have done it if I had thought it was possible. |

Posted - 02/28/2006 : 19:21:42 I think it would be a career that completely changed every 2-5 years. I really like my job now. But I do secretly wish I could have been a rockstar, but it's definately not genetically wired for that. Maybe a Sci Fi writer, but I get too distracted. I also secretly wish I could be a poet that has my work discovered after I die. There was a poet in colonial New England that was discovered by her grandchildren or something like that. I think that's cool. |

when i think about it, playing major league baseball still sounds fun. shortstop or third base sounds right to me. probably better suited for bench but hey, it's a dream job!

Posted - 02/28/2006 : 14:38:46 good idea, starmekitten, that would be great, even to work at one, most people wouldn't even bother you cause they just wanna look around and be left alone anyway.
When I was a kid I wanted to be a child star. I wanted them to make a sequel to "the Goonies" Sean Astin and me replacing Corey feldman or that chinese kid, and a new song by Cyndi Lauper. I used to hope that I'd meet Corey Haim somewhere, and we'd become friends and he'd help get me in a movie. I guess he's clean now, but for all the drugs he's not doing he's making up for w/ food. I saw him on VH1 and he's HUGE.
