Posted - 09/27/2005 : 02:19:33 I was curious. I know a lot of people have major cyber chats happening whether it be via email or posting. But do many people actually socilise in person with people they have met on this board? I mean do you hang out outside of the Frank Black world. Chat on the phone, visit someone elses city etc, catch up see movies and get wasted etc. I met one guy from australia on the board but outside of Frank Black we didn't seem to have much in common so that friendship died ...or maybe thats just me. The only friend ive ever met through the internet is a guy i traded Wilco bootlegs too who was in my same city. |

Posted - 09/30/2005 : 03:57:22 I have met up with Old Neptuna, Therewererumours, SteveplymouthUK and Ramona of course. All lovely people. I do email Stu clopster and Brendan T as well (albeit not too frequently - sorry lads). As for Andy 'Ten Percenter' - bad egg. He keeps threatening my girlfriend and I also know he is a closet Glasgow Rangers fan as well.

Posted - 09/30/2005 : 03:47:05 I've met Ramona and CofF - a fine time was had by all, or maybe I should say a fine time was had by me. I hoped to meet up with Ramona, Mereubu and Zanni when I was in the US a few months back, but we only managed to speak on the phone. I was due to meet up with Bazza, but his partner, the very forceful Sarah, objected. The Clopser keeps on threatening to visit, but I distrust his motives. My matchmaking skills have also been employed ont his forum, but that is another story!

Posted - 09/30/2005 : 02:56:23 I hate to pop in just to say "LOL", much less to just say "LOL" in a message, nevermind even typing "LOL" once, much less three times, but this almost cost me a cubit of Coca-Cola through my nose and on the keyboard. Great thread, interesting to read about the meet ups.
I've met a few people from here, all great. A girl from beyond the internet in Porto, a nice Frenchman and his family in Strasbourg, a really cool/nice/down-to-earth moderator-to-be in New York, not to mention a sweet-to-the-bone girl (and her charming though Pixies-deficient-though-still-all-the-way-in-New-York-to-see-them husband), a man of many claims to fame though none so obvious as his good nature, and so on. Assuming I'm back through the UK in December (and not off to Australia or New Zealand like I've been thinking about lately), I hope to meet a few more.

Posted - 09/29/2005 : 17:45:15 I went to the same small Camper Van Beethoven show as "Dallas" but didn't know he was at the show (or who he is even) until after we both posted about it. I think Tobafett lives pretty close up in Oklahoma so if Frank ever comes back to Dallas for a Catholics show or somesuch maybe I will see him there. Other than that, no fb.netters around this area in Texas I don't think, and none visiting regularly, unless they just blow me off when they come to Texas.

When I get home I'll go talk to those two and see what they remember; it's been a couple years now, but sometime in the next couple weeks I'll whip something up and share their story. Just went through that thread and saw some sweet anecdotes, I'll be glad to add.

Posted - 09/28/2005 : 20:13:20 it's funny b/c when i first came here all i wanted were tickets to the fineline show. but i have made many friends here and it's just refreshing to meet people with the same GOOD musical taste.
I have met virtual friends that I just chat with, other friends that we trade music and then one real life friend that lives here in minny... so it's a pretty cool deal.
I have waited so long to chat endlessly about the pixies and frank black's music and i found it...
HUGS :)
