I want to buy my first MP3 player. I think I will mostly use it attached to my car stereo so I can clear the CD clutter from the car.

Do I just stay with the in-crowd and get an IPod with 20 gig? What about software issues? Does it suck to only be able to use ITunes?

Apple will start using Intel processors for their Macs in 2006/7, but there'll be several measures in place to stop their OS being installed on just any computer with an Intel (or compatable) processor, i.e. a standard PC. There is already a cracked version out there which can run on a PC, anf people will probably find ways to hack into later builds of the OS, but it's by no means legal.

Lol...this conversation will be moot next year when Macs move to the Intel processor, and the PC types will be installing their first Mac OS on their Dell PCs...weeeeee! I have a Rio Carbon...I love everything about it except that its only 5gbs. I wish it was 20gbs...like the iPod...lol.

Have you upgraded your firmware to play MPEGS yet Ziggy?

Yeah, I've got the 20 gig iRiver. It plays a host of file types, and you don't have to mess around with iTunes. Fabulous little device.
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 09/17/2005 : 10:49:52
I'm sorry but if you can't sell it to me, then I have to class it as inferior.

Maybe you only tried Windows on a PC.

kathryn Posted - 09/17/2005 : 10:32:14
I speak for both Surfer and myself when I say that it is beneath us Mac chicks to quote sell the Mac to you PC types.

I might also add, and I do this at the risk of sounding like I am hitting on a certain forumer dude, that there is something beguiling about a guy who appreciates the beauty of the Mac computer experience.

Seeing as Nic can't manage it then, YOU sell the Mac to me.

You know to be honest with you, I have no idea how good a Mac is. Sell them to me.

Ipods are DEFINITELY not the best Mp3 players though.

Because they are slow clunky cumbersome and antiquated

I may have slagged mine off but I would sooner be kept in a small room and made to listen to Coldplay for days with only my evil bastard ex boss for company than switch to a pc.

Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 09/17/2005 : 09:39:25
No you don't. You know Macs are inferior. I am sure you have slagged yours off in the past.

Yeah if you have a Mac, then it probably is the best option. I didn't realise you had a crappy Mac ; )

Kathryn from a fellow mac person, stick with your lovely nano. You've already got itunes, hell you'll not even have to read the manual to figure out how it works.

You need to get with the times lady.

Loving the ipod and never having heard of iriver is like loving U2 but having never heard of Pixies.

You can play movies on it. Movies I say.

why would anyone love u2?

Exactly.

Why love the ipod? Small it may be, but overall it is certainly not the best.

agreed, i have a creative labs zen, was only about £150 for 20 gig. it's very good. only slight complaint is the headphones that come with it aren't fantastic... but that's easily replaced.

I bought a black Nano last night. Guess what I chose for my free engraving?

I don't need to watch movies when I'm running, Homers. Plus, I image-googled your beloved iriver and, I know all the girls tell you this, but that thing is huge!

Nano. Small. Better. Apple. I'm in.

C'mon, it holds 1,000 songs, is tiny (thinner than a #2 pencil and less than half the size of other players) plus it has one-handed navigation (no masturbation jokes, please). It's perfect for running, which is what I want it for. I'm going for it, people.

I'm somewhat inclined to believe that's the only reason Apple can ever sell any of their products.

I gotta agree. I almost got the iPod mini and am so glad I just bit it and got the 20GB. I am not to the 5,000 songs yet but close....actually makes me now think I would have bought the 40GB. But I couldn't of afforded it at the time.

I don't know, but I'd prefer not to have to send it to Apple when that time does arise.
