It has now been three weeks. Yay. In fact, I have no desire for one. Partly because I have been suffering from bronchitis during this time. Anyway, I found out from the doctor that my lungs are not in the best of condition, and if I continue to smoke, I may develop emphysema (sp?) in as little as 2 - 5 years. This didn't surprise me as heavy smoking is common on both sides of my family...and most have died during their early forties of emphysema and/or lung cancer. I will be 34 in a week. Yikes. I was told the damaged lining will regenerate but it will take years, so...I have decided to quit while I'm sorta ahead. Anyone else want to join me? Come on! Someone quit with me!

I was alone...in my BIG BED

Way to go! That's fantastic, Tranny.

There's a perfect explanation for the shit that I've been in. As soon as I find out, I'll let you know.

Success! Saturday will mark 10 smoke-free weeks for me!

The pub round the corner has a little bus-shelter like thing outside!

"Aw yeah, that's the good stuff!"
s_wrenn Posted - 07/02/2007 : 15:28:34
Of all the people i know who smoke, non even thought about quitting when the ban came in. I’m sure people have quit though because of it
Smoking area in pubs have become so bizarre here (IMO) Pubs and nite clubs really experiment with the idea of inside/outside.
There's a place i go to where they have knocked two walls out of a first floor room and replaced them with a cage like structure. You're basically standing in a two walled room. Other places just took out the windows and put in bars instead.

We've had the smoking ban over here for a couple of years, and people seem to have gotten used to it. I used to hate the stink of smoke off your clothes after a night out. Being an asthmatic non-smoker, I suppose I'm biased, but it seems that there are even some smokers who feel that it's reasonable enough.

Now that the smoking ban has arrived here in England it's given me extra insentive to quit. Last time I tried I went onto herbal tobacco which was ok at first but it's kind of like smoking meusli.

i think it still counts as quitting if it's been a considerable length of time, i.e. years.
it still counts as time spent not killing themselves

Well, when you 'quit' a job, do you never seek employment again? When you 'quit' a relationship, do you never have another one? When you 'quit' thinking about something, do you never have another thought? Oh forget it. I quit.

Yes you would seek employment, but that's like saying "I've quit smoking (original job) but I am becoming an alcoholic (further employment)". It's two different things. You've still quit smoking, unless you go back to your 'old job'. Sort of.

Does that make sense? To anybody?

Probably not. Oh well.

The problem with a chemical dependency is that it overrides your logical thinking, and that's what sabotages many efforts to quit smoking. I'm not sure it's so simple as people not *really* wanting to quit.

Grand Marnier and a pocketful of speed. We did it all day until we started to bleed.
Newo Posted - 03/23/2007 : 03:08:42
I feel how many people have a problem quitting is that they don't really want to quit when they do and they sabotage it on themselves and feel bad about not being able to leave it when deepdown they didn`t feel it was their time to stop anyway. So I figure until you do really want to quit (which I'd put as feeling a total lack of resonance with a cigarette as opposed to the nagging sense of obligation), smoke meditatively and concentratedly on the cigarette and with love, and if you drop the habit you drop the habit; if you don't, why beat yourself up for doing something you didn't want to do?

I quit after seeing the movie The Insider. Didn't like the idea I was being taken for a ride by a bunch of lying dwarves. It was much easier than everyone makes out. We just love to moan I guess.

It will be 2 years since i quit on july 10, 2008. i haven't even sneaked any so i think that is a key point in quitting. it was hard. i had to get it in my mind and DECIDE i was going to be a nonsmoker.
