RamonesMania=best comp ever. I love Bop 'Til You Drop, I Wanna Live and Warthog (besides all the other classics that don't need mentioning)...it it just had Pet Semetary and Waits' cover I Don't Wanna Grow Up it'd really be the full monty!

Ramones to Rock the Screen

October 10, 2006 - The story of the classic punk rock band The Ramones, often referred to as the "Godfathers of Punk," may be coming to the big screen courtesy of producer Rory Rosegarten -- that's according to today's edition of industry insider mag Variety.
Rosegarten, a producer and longtime comedian manager, has personally snatched up the movie rights to the book, I Slept With Joey Ramone, an authorized biography written by the late Ramone's brother Mickey Leigh and punk rock writer Legs McNeil.
The book is not yet available for purchase, but in an interview with MarkPrindle.com, Mickey describes it as "the real story." "[It's] not recycled party-line, band and publicist approved fodder," he says. "Like his life it'll be full of humor, drama, kindness, anger and poignancy. It will be written with love, sensitivity and fairness to all involved. The truth won't be sacrificed, not for myself either. The truth according to not just one witness, but two."
According to Variety, producer Rosegarten has also negotiated a deal with Ramone's mother, Charlotte Lesher, executor of Ramone's estate. This would give him the right to use the band's music in the film. |

"Baby I Love You" is pretty bad (and probably when they "jumped the shark"). Isn't Joey the only Ramone who actually appears on the recording? The rest of End of the Century isn't bad but IMO Spector's production was a big step down from Road to Ruin.

Ah come on! End of the Century is produced by Spector! No, really, it's a great fucking album full of great songs, and Spector's wall of sound fits very well with those songs.

I love the Ramones, especially their first albums. Their songs are just perfect incarnations of what rock'n'roll is all about: primarity, fun and coolitude. Here's my top 5 albums:
1- The Ramones
2- End Of The Century
3- Rocket To Russia
4- Pleasant Dreams
5- Road To Ruin
and Joey's solo album is fantastic too.

Too Tough To Die is really good. I didn't know the Ramones had done hardcore punk; Wart Hog and Endless Vacation are hilarious (and great). The extended edition includes a great cover of Street Fighting Man. These editions kinda put me off though... A 30-minutes, 12-songs Ramones record is near perfection, but the versions with 12 extra demo tracks make the albums hard to swallow. I wish they'd add a 30-seconds blank space between the actual album and the extra songs.

I'm no expert,
but if I had to pick fave songs it would prolly be Judy is a Punk and I like Beat on the Brat.
Sometimes its hard to understand what Joey was saying, he's got quite a unique way of pronounciation.
I have some kind of best of covers album...
Rob Zombie does blitzkrieg bop very strangely.
Its really slow and his voice is so much deeper.
Yeah,I don't like it.

Animal Boy may be my fave Ramones LP, and the only one still not reissued on CD I think. And Richie even wrote some of the coolest songs, like Somebody Put Something In My Drink. It's a shame the way they dumped him, but you can't really blame dysfunctional people, I guess.
Ramones were the greatest cult band ever and I can't believe how bad the business side of things was handled. Everyone should have a record of theirs. They wrote so many hits that never sold. I think that for every band that got started after hearing the Pixies or the Velvet Underground ten Ramonesy bands popped up. |

It's on Too Tough to Die with the nasty bundle energy Wart Hog (It's a sick world, sick sick sick).
I got to see them in Victoria (with Deborah Harry), I think they were recovering from the PNE gig in Vancouver. |

rock and roll high school is what i first saw of the ramones. being in grade school i heard them as a joke band like the pussycats (josie). "sheena is" caught me later in high school. |

I think the movie came before the song. And Roger Corman didn't direct the Ramones movie, but his company did produce it.
I love the Ramones. For me, The Ramones are a "line in the sand" band. What that means is that if you don't like The Ramones, I figure I probably have very little in common with you, when it comes to taste in music. Maybe we'll be allied on a few middling things, but our overall concepts of what is cool will be much too different for me to want to take your recommendations on any music (or think that MY recommendations would be of much use to you). "Line in the sand" bands aren't necessarily my absolute favorite bands (Frank Black and The Pixies are NOT "line in the sand" artists for me, for example), but ones that I do like a lot that, in my opinion, also represent something bigger than themselves.
Anyway, people often fixate on the First Four, but I think the Ramones put out decent music pretty consistently. Their late 80s and 90s work: underrated, in my opinion. The records with Richie on drums, in particular, rock my socks right off.
Favorite Ramones song at the moment: "Go Li'l Camaro, Go". Debbie Harry singing with Joey!
Favorite not-often-talked-about song from the classic first four: "It's a Long Way Back". |
