so i've been informed via email from a bunch of members of the book club that this book has been now made into a 'long term assignment' because of the difficulty in some people obtaining it/reading it, and i have been assigned the task of picking a month-long or so assignment for the book club. i'll be compiling my top 3 choices, and i'll make sure they're quasi-easily obtainable.

yeah....i read it in a house on my own at night, bad idea, didnt sleep a wink, it really stays with you, the sense of evil it creates is amazing
kathryn Posted - 07/15/2005 : 10:19:10
Apl, without divulging too much to the others, I'll simply say that the house is freaking me out -- the sprouted rooms. Also, I sense something sinister looming about the children, which wigs me out.

Does that makes sense to you?

I'm not technically in the book club (I didn't join up because I read it last year), but it freaked me out too, it seems to have that effect on a lot of people.

I'm curious exactly how it's creeped you out, kathryn. I had some very bizarre experiences, but I don't want to go into detail until everyone's read it.
Newo Posted - 07/15/2005 : 07:48:17
i still havenīt got it, itīs just new in Engerland and even rarer here.

There's a double narrative? this could be a problem, I hate that.

i'm 3 chapters in - i like the actual text stuff, but i really dislike the narration by the 'author' - i find it tedious and hard to get through

I think this deadline appears to be as and when most of us have read it, I know zub has, who's still going with this one? we'll set a date and then move onto the next

Shiner sounds about right, Brian.

How far into it are you? It grabbed me on the second page with the tattoed stripper named Thumper. I was in after that.

kathryn Posted - 07/12/2005 : 10:11:24
I picked it up from the library an hour ago and devoured the first 30 pages. It's the kind of book that either grabs you or it doesn't.

Oh and it's 700 pages, not 600.

Can someone please remind me who chose it and when the deadline is?

Because there's no way I agreed to read a 600-page book that I have yet to get my hands on. That man is a liar!

i'm having a hard time getting into the book b/c of the nature of its writing style - i feel like i'm back in college reading journal articles. but its starting to hook me in a little.

No whining, soldier. War is hell. Now get reading!

(I do agree -- I'd rather have just one deadline.)

i'd rather just set a date to have it all done by, but if this is how we wind up going, i'll go along with it

why do i start good books right before the book club starts? now i have to rush through THE SPORTSWRITER to get to this
