this is for pet owners who have had horrible things happen to the pets and want to share experience and feelings and console one another and help cope with loss and hardship... because I need that right now...

So tonight I am sitting at my desk and one of my 3 cats, Ares, comes through the window. He didn't make the jump all the way in at first and so I looked over at the window when I heard the sound of a cat to see who it was and to see if they had a live mouse or something.

And then he came towards me... his face was all bloody and his eye was popped out... it looked like his brain was coming out of his eye socket... he could barely walk and his jaw was popped open and he was gasping for air..

So I had to call the emergency vet which was 45 minutes away and so I rushed him up there... I thought he was going to die for sure...

they took x-rays and his jaw is broken and his eye is going to have ot be removed. I opted to take him home with me and I am taking him to my vet where I live first thing in the morning...

I am in a state of shock and I feel so terrbile for him... it's really mind-blowing how life can change in an instant... and the gore was so terrible, the horror is so disturbing... it's really hard to accept the horror...

I want to get drunk...

ares is the black one...

Good to hear he's on the mend Andy.

it also says "I love my daddy" on it, I wish a had a decent camara...

Also thank you guys for thinking of me, it helps indeed.

When I hold him and feed him baby food with a syringe he's just like a baby, and when he's done I know it, he gets all pissed off. When he's on his second syringe he just starts vibrating with joy, it feels really cool, like one of the electric massage thingys

anyway, thanks

I'll second that. I've been worried sick about LBF and Ares. The latest news has made my day.

I am glad your cat is doing well LBF. Best FB.net forum news of the week.

damn, that is one cute dog.

It is a fact the dog is exceptionally cute, but I bet you would be offended if I said your main reason for saying that is that you would like to have intercourse with the dog's owner.

Don't bother, boys. I've been sweetening up the good nurse with all kinds of
compliments about her doggie and it's gotten me nowhere, nowhere!

Sorry to hear about your experience with the feline. That must have been horrible to see that. I remember when I found my bird, dead. My heart was absolutely crushed. I still miss him today. Ratsputin was my friend, always riding around on my shoulder and what not. I tried to get another bird, but it didn't work out. He was so scared when I let him out. He got lost. Three days later I found him in my dirty laundry. He died. Poor guy.

Ares...what an appropriate name for a warrior like that. And you too, LBF. Man, I just saw the thread for the first time and you took my breath away. I hope things are getting easier for all you. My cat Raoul was attacked and killed by the neighbor's dogs 6 years ago as he sat out in the sun in my mom's big front yard. He was 16, and the only consolation for me was that he was enjoying the yard that he always enjoyed on a beautiful day, and he died with my mom holding him after the neighbors rang her doorbell. He was supercool, and I bet he roams the yard in spirit even now!! More power to you and Ares.

All of the true things I am about to tell you are shameless lies

Oh that dear kittie! Bless you for being so loving, LBF.

aww, he's all snuggled up in a blanket. i agree with surfer - badass pirate patch is the way to go.
Surfer Rosa Posted - 06/03/2005 : 08:56:04
If he's happy to wear a bib - maybe he'd be okay with a pirate's eye patch or am I just being silly?
mosleyk Posted - 06/03/2005 : 08:52:05
I agree! His coat looks really healthy. What gorgeous markings. I love the picture with the bib. You can tell from that picture that your cat just adores you.

Thank you so much for the pictures and please keep us updated on his progress!

LBF, you're cat is beautiful and it seems like you've been taking really good care of him.

Talking like a damn builder
Little Black Francis Posted - 06/03/2005 : 08:43:32

He's still beautiful - even with one eye. Love the markings on his nose.

Surfer Rosa Posted - 06/03/2005 : 06:33:41
Awwww so so cute.

That truly does suck. At least you've got a whole year to spoil her little puppyness to bits!
dayanara Posted - 06/03/2005 : 06:30:21
i decided not to splurge on the prozac. she has a huge heart murmur, mitral valve dysplasia. there's as much blood going backwards when it pumps as there is going forwards. she's in congestive heart failure. this dog is 12 months old. the thing is, she has no idea she's sick. she doesn't feel bad, she's not in any pain or discomfort. i can't NOT treat her. the vet gives her another year. it's awful because she's this happy peppy puppy and i'm sitting around waiting for her to die. they should give the prozac to me instead.

my pride and joy.

Surfer Rosa Posted - 06/03/2005 : 06:22:58
Was he the one they reckon needed prozac? How's he doing?
dayanara Posted - 06/03/2005 : 06:15:28
i've spent almost $2,000 on my dog in the last 6 weeks. if that isn't a horror story i don't know what is.

Ares is so blessed to have you! Thank you for the update. I am so happy to hear that he is alive and recovering. My parents had a one-eyed cat "pearl" and she adapted to having single vision very well. Infact, she was the toughest cat on the farm and lived a long happy life.

Keep your big book near in case you need it. I know this will not break you.
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 05/23/2005 : 08:15:01
This is so sad but he couldn't have a more caring owner.

I guess floop WAS right!
Little Black Francis Posted - 05/22/2005 : 20:12:16
Of course I don't mind, and Thank You, you are Sweet...

Update: Brought Ares home Saturday Morning. Eye Removed and Sewn Shut... there's no eye there, it's sewn shut with stiches... Figure 8 wire around his Canine Teeth to keep his jaw in the same position, a few centimers open wide... Feeding him food and water throuhg a syringe... baby food, chicken flavored... give antibiotic Amoxi 2xs a day through eye-dropper... pain med every other day...

He's very lathargic and uncomfortable... he hates being force fed, but he submits with lots of effort

Will have jaw wire removed in 3 months, will need constant care until then

Other cas very confused, and feeding patterns are being changed... uncomfortable at the moment...

I am coping but not too well yet. I hope this will make me and not break me, I feel as though I can get through it but It is Very Difficult... my emotions are Insane!

Will have some pics when I get my disposable camara developed and my scanner working again...

Thanks for all the concern, fb dot net rules =)

I don't know you Andy so I don't feel it's my place to intervene but I sure hope that people who know you and are your friends are talking to you right now. And if they are not, make them! I know its seems impossible sometimes but talking to a friend really does help...
I just had to say something... Hope you don't mind...
