this is for pet owners who have had horrible things happen to the pets and want to share experience and feelings and console one another and help cope with loss and hardship... because I need that right now...
So tonight I am sitting at my desk and one of my 3 cats, Ares, comes through the window. He didn't make the jump all the way in at first and so I looked over at the window when I heard the sound of a cat to see who it was and to see if they had a live mouse or something.
And then he came towards me... his face was all bloody and his eye was popped out... it looked like his brain was coming out of his eye socket... he could barely walk and his jaw was popped open and he was gasping for air..
So I had to call the emergency vet which was 45 minutes away and so I rushed him up there... I thought he was going to die for sure...
they took x-rays and his jaw is broken and his eye is going to have ot be removed. I opted to take him home with me and I am taking him to my vet where I live first thing in the morning...
I am in a state of shock and I feel so terrbile for him... it's really mind-blowing how life can change in an instant... and the gore was so terrible, the horror is so disturbing... it's really hard to accept the horror...
I want to get drunk...
ares is the black one...

That's truly awful. How do you think it happened?

That's absolutely horrible. As Surfer asked, do you or the vet have any idea how it may have happened?
I guess floop WAS right!

at this point it appears he was hit by a car, looks like he took a severe blow to the head, and he had maggots on his ass, so they think it happened 2 days ago, not yesterday... that was the last time I had seen him because I wasn't home much with work and meetings and shit... and he is afraid of people... he won't even come to me outside but inside he sleeps on my head every night and purrs like a tractor... and there's no way another animal could have done that to him...
I'm not handling this well at all... I'm actually drinking

Oh no Andy, is that the first time you've drank for awhile?
I'm glad he's alive, cats don't usually make it against cars.

Andy I am so sorry! I am a HUGE cat lover, and have three indoor cats and about 7-8 who live on our farm. I have had to deal with many injuries and some death...none of them are easy.
I will be thinking and praying for your cat. Keep us posted on developments. Talking about it really does help. |

I hope you will.
What do you mean bad alcoholic? Does that mean you feel you have to drink most of the time or does that mean it affects you in a bad way? Just curious. There seems to be the "normal" people who drink and are loud but happy and having fun. And then there are those who hmmmm well it just affects them differently. Like some sort of allergy or intolerance. They slow right down, you can see it in their face right away...is there a term for that?
And back to pet stories. I feel so bad for my cat. She's actually my bro's and we've just moved. He gave her to us as he works out of town often. She's getting older and you can tell she has some sort of arthritis or pain in her back legs. Watching her watch the birds is pitiful.

Sad, sad news.
There is hope though. Two weeks ago we found out my partner's 9 year old cat is going blind from a severe retinal infection. I was dreading that the cat would have to be put out. The vet treated the infection but unfortunately the cat's eyes were permanently damaged. We were told that the cat would easily adapt and within a week he settled into a new routine. During the day he is quite active, movements are a little wary but he goes about his usual business. At night he struggles to see and stays inside.
Don't worry about your cat losing an eye, he'll soon manage again. I hope they can fix up his jaw (usually can be done surgically)
I hope you are ok and things look up again soon

LBF, do you have a sponsor or someone you can check in with? What about some support staff from your last rehab? You know exactly how this thing's gonna go down if you don't but the brakes on. I say that last sentence with love for you, not judgment.
Before I read your post, I was coming into this thread to post about the hideous morning when my cat got run over by a car .... and was just dandy after 3 nailbiting days in and out of surgery.
Email me, if you want, OK?

Really sorry for you Andy, I was gutted when my cats died but at least it wasn't too sudden.
I must say though, these injuries seem strange for a car accident. It's also rare for a cat to live any real amount of time after being hit.
I guess floop WAS right!

I don't know you Andy so I don't feel it's my place to intervene but I sure hope that people who know you and are your friends are talking to you right now. And if they are not, make them! I know its seems impossible sometimes but talking to a friend really does help... I just had to say something... Hope you don't mind...

Of course I don't mind, and Thank You, you are Sweet...
Update: Brought Ares home Saturday Morning. Eye Removed and Sewn Shut... there's no eye there, it's sewn shut with stiches... Figure 8 wire around his Canine Teeth to keep his jaw in the same position, a few centimers open wide... Feeding him food and water throuhg a syringe... baby food, chicken flavored... give antibiotic Amoxi 2xs a day through eye-dropper... pain med every other day...
He's very lathargic and uncomfortable... he hates being force fed, but he submits with lots of effort
Will have jaw wire removed in 3 months, will need constant care until then
Other cas very confused, and feeding patterns are being changed... uncomfortable at the moment...
I am coping but not too well yet. I hope this will make me and not break me, I feel as though I can get through it but It is Very Difficult... my emotions are Insane!
Will have some pics when I get my disposable camara developed and my scanner working again...
Thanks for all the concern, fb dot net rules =)
... I hate shit that is true |
