OK, I have been mulling over this idea for a few days now, and have decided to give it a shot.
The idea is for us to write an official song for the forum.
Firstly I need to know who is interested. You don't need to be able to play an instrument, though it would help to at least know what different notes sound like.
When I have a list of participants, we can then start the voting process. Firstly we will vote on how many chords in the verse, then in the chorus (our song will not have an intro, outro or solos for now, to keep things simple). When we have done this, we will vote on the first chord of the verse, then the second and so on. We will then do this for the chorus. When all the chords are written we will work on the lyrics, and this is where it should get really fun.
OK, so firstly, who fancies being a part of not only forum history but rock 'n' roll history? The cut-off point for entrants is Saturday 14th May.

four chords strummed three times? thats fine with me, i mean to get started voting and set some kinda tone
we could think intro. everyone likes (Dmi), then on down to (F) for frank, maybe (G) next, and over to (Bb) for
Black. this is just thinking out loud, just trying to keep it loose, no strong feelings either way. or any other thousand progressions out there, i'm kinda bored with this Dmi F G Bb.

I quite like emoticons but I think I used to over-use them when I first came here. They do help though I think.
To be fair the thread started out reasonably simple. We vote on the mount of chords in the verse, then the chorus, then vote on the chords and then we tackle the lyrics (a line each perhaps). It was supposed to be really really simple so that people who don't play anything could join in. I don't mind making it more exclusive to players though now 'cos I don't think any non-players signed up anyway.

but mike, doesn't that limit the actual 'songwriting' to simplistic chords and lyrics? if any substance is added in the actual songwriting process, will it be dismissed as too stylized?

Erm that's not exactly what I meant. I wanted styles to be unique to each person. Some people might not know the Spanish style or be able to play it and I wanted this open to as many different people as possible.

To be honest with you Brian I was gonna leave the actual style/tempo etc to each participant after we have estbablished the chords and lyrics.
I am hoping that some people may even post their versions here at the end.

i mean we should do a song (i guess sort of like 'los angeles') that will sound, in different parts of the song, different. like for instance, if the first part of the song was quasi-pixieish, then moved into stuff with synths, then straight forward rock, then some country flourishes towards the end. you know - let the song travel the career of FB.

i was thinking of a song sort of in the vein of one of the who's little mini-rock operas, like "a quick one while he's away" so we could include the styles of FB's music from pixies to honeycomb.
does this sound good or dumb to anyone?
