Posted - 03/17/2005 : 03:29:03 is Carla Bozulich's Red Headed Stranger. Seriously. I've mentioned it a dozen times on this forum but I have to insist. Your life isn't fulfilled until you hear this stunning record. It has the wonderful songs of Willie Nelson, some stunning lap steel played by Nels Cline, it has some electric mbira and Mr Electronic Tamboura, it has Carla's most beautiful vocals to date, and 2 duets with Willie Nelson himself. It comes in a beautiful digipack with a really cool picture of Carla. It'll haunt you day and night. It'll make you cry, laugh, dance, shiver, and throw away all your other records.

Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger is a great album. But Carla Bozulich's cover of Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger happens to be the best album ever made. This explains why you should listen to it, darwin.

Lately I haven't heard a song I like more than this one.
TRACK 5 5:50 into it... "the yellow haired lady... touch the bale... black stallion..."
gets me everytime
Yeah, Willie Nelson is great. |

Amongst the Beatles catalogue is the best album ever made. I say the same about Charles Thompson's catalogue, too. Fight!!!! |

Posted - 06/09/2010 : 06:51:59 I'd have to say that Bat out of Hell is the greatest rock and roll album ever made. Songs that go on for 10 minutes yet somehow aren't boring ever, great story telling lyrics combined with great piano and enthusiastic singing. I hated it, a year later thought it was unbelievable.

Posted - 06/08/2010 : 21:33:03 I just bought this CD a few days ago. You know I love country and this type of music, you know I tried to get with Carla, but this is not the best album ever made, it's not even in the discussion.
How much bluegrass have you listened to?

Great choice, Thomas. I first heard it in Stephen King's "Sleepwalkers". What a gorgeous track. Sinister, too. |

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sorry vilainde. I took a listen to Carla Bozulich's Red Headed Stranger and it doesn't do it for me.
Not that you asked. ;) Here is my pick for "The best album ever made"
Serious? I wouldn't describe her as "serious" at all. Try listening to the stuff on her website:
http://www.carlabozulich.com/Sounds.html
Try "Monkeys" (from her other band The Night Porter), Ethyl Meatplow's "Quennie", or "Blue Cross" (duet with Beck). She's signed on Constellation but the stuff she does is far from all these crap post-rock bands (now these are guys who "get serious while playing guitar", and who I don't understand at all).
Posted - 03/07/2010 : 05:54:53 You've probably heard her already, she sings on a couple of tracks on Ball-Hog or Tugboat. Against the 70s, Drove Up From Pedro, Sidemouse Advice, Tuff Gnarl.
Posted - 03/05/2010 : 08:50:54 Listening to "Red Headed Stranger" by Willie Nelson and reminded of this thread.
Willie can not be improved upon.
Does Carla Bozulich sing Bonaparte's Retreat (as bonus material) on her tainted album "Red Headed Stranger"? Because the world could stop when Willie sings it. |
