I'm into the old Volkswagen Transporters rather heavily.

This is not my bus - just a pic for reference.

I tend to dig just about any old car from the Goggomobile to the Mustangs of the 60's and 70's.

What about you?

nice datsun, mun chien...here's the closest pic I could find of my first car. i beat my little truck all to crap...(it had an extended cab with broken window hinges so I'd just reach in and open the doors...) after I killed it, I got the mighty mighty firebird. and then the girls really started payin' attention! :)

Sorry, my mistake, I was thinking of The Dukes Of Hazard for some strange reason. You can see why I was confused.

Yeah I saw Smokey as a kid.

Love, love, my season
tobafett Posted - 02/19/2005 : 14:11:41
Smokey and the Bandit. Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, Sally Field. 1979 or 80. big (dunno why) flick here...firebird sales hit the roof. the Bandit (burt r.) drove a black trans am with the screamin' turkey on the hood.

give it a watch if you like semi-trucks (think you call 'em lorries). kind of a redneck-fave movie, i suppose. ( i liked it when I was little because of the car--same reason I liked Dukes of Hazzard. ok ok, daisy wasn't bad either but that's for another post)

The slang is right but I don't get it.

tobafett Posted - 02/19/2005 : 13:57:35
would that make it "Copper and the Bandit" then, in the uk?

[edit--sorry, looking for brit-slang for highway policeman, constable, whatever.]

You had cooool parents. I used to love Firebirds as a kid. I remember when my dad brought one hjome from his garage when I was a kid. I made him drive me round to all my friends parent's houses, I felt so cool. You have remember that they are very rare in this country, so everyone was impressed.

same colour too!

the hood was the coolest:

but black bird on gold.

Firebird? Post that.

i don't remember it, apparently he traded it in for a BMW or a Volvo when i was about 5 or something. i remember both the bimmer and the volvo, my mum had a firebird and then a beetle or vice versa.

I don't like most cars made after the 70s. I'm a big fan of the vw beetle. In Cape Town they're driven by all the students. In one houseshare I lived in we used 4 vw beetles parked outside at once with a camper van thrown in for good measure. At the time we had a crazy german student living with us, he had a curious penchant for strutting about the house in his y fronts with them yanked up to under his armpits, but I digress - Jurgen used to wake up at sunrise to photograph the sun rising behind all the beautiful Volkswagens - often.

actually, that does look pretty cool too shine. although you probably didn't think so when you were 16. i guess your dad selling the Porsche was a way of saving your life, in a way. if i had a porsche when i was 16 i would not be alive today (it's amazing i am as it is)..

kim, yeah, i'm not a Porsche-guy, at all. at least the new ones.. they've always seemed very yuppie / old-man-going-through-mid-life-crisis-esque. but those old 60's ones. and even late 50's.. they're SO FUCKING COOL. i've been fixating lately.. unfortunately they're pretty up there in price (not like buying an old volvo).. but, we can always fantasize can't we?

yes please

Hell yeah, shiney.

Babe magnet?
Hell, that thing is a babe black hole.
Bitches just get sucked off the sidewalk and stick to the side of the car.

Floop, one cannot entertain any reasonable VW enthusiasm without becoming enamoured with the Porsche- especially the early stuff. See that Speedster in the window of HPM's dad's car pic?

Every time I see a 356 I get all oogly.

Wow Shine, that's one sexy ride!

worse, this is what he bought after that until i was 19:

He said "don't worry just slur when you tell them you drive a volare and they think you are saying ferarri" yeah, thanks dad. he bought an 87 VW Golf GTI 16V when I was 19 so he made up for it somewhat, i eventually bought that off him and it was very good to me until the timing belt broke and i damaged 7 of the 16 valve stems, do'h!

I've always really liked Lotus Esprits

My dad built and drove one of these when he was young. No wonder he bagged my mother.

Nope, $4 now Homers...sorry, inflation you know. wait, make that £5.

(btw, is it kosher to say £5 quid or just 5 quid? i wouldn't say $40 dollars--thanks for the English lesson!!)

ta!

i like those too. i had several volvos after my 1964 122. used to really dig them. now i have a honda civic that my parents got for me out of pity (all the car troubles i had) and, while it has zero style, it's nice to have a car that starts up and runs. i love it.

lately i've really been digging the old porsches. if i ever get the money i'd love to have another vintage car, but not as my main automobile. that was part of my nightmare..

tobafett, can I buy it for $2 now?

Love, love, my season

I had a '65 Volvo 122/Amazon from 1983 until I sold it in 2002. I put well over 200,000 miles on it during that time. I also had a Volvo 544 for a few months.

Aw, Homers, I'm not a bastard! :)

ok, so my firebird was a little different...it didn't have the 400, it was a straight-6 OHC 250. other than that, same car.

I, THANK YOU VERMUCH, bought the car. and it cost me $2. yep, two dollars. It belonged to a fam. member who wanted it out of her garage for a while...drove it for abt. 2 1/2 years. then i sold it back for $2.

LOVED the firebird. everytime i see it now, i kiss it on the trunk. the hottest girl in my school really dug it--so did my girlfriend at the time:)

I had one older, but this one I bought it new, it's from 2001, I think ...can't remember. It's for the work, they are very good for that.

Rita, what year is your Transporter?

In the "bus community" we all wave...if you'll wave back.
Generally, people who drive VW vans all realize that the vehicle they are driving is like little else on the road.

I have a Volkswagen transporter, but it's not an old one, so not funny at all.

It just goes to show;

The guys with the hot cars don't necessarily get the beautiful women.

Sometimes, Erkel lands a babe.

It was his first car, it wasn't that yellow, was Black, and I think he enjoyed it a lot.
