Since we're on an 80s kick, we must pay respects to these guys. More artists than punks, in my book, but always mighty mighty good...

I also like Jerry Harrison's solo album:

And the Tom Tom Club. Good lord, the Tom Tom Club. The sheer silliness of it!

Chris and Tina were the cool music couple before Thurston and Kim.

Anybody else like the Talking Heads?

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank

I bought More Songs 2 weeks ago and was blown away by it, just as it happened with every other TH album I've heard.
I wasn't as impressed by My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts though. I think it's an extremely innovative album, which must have sounded quite impressive at the time it was released, but this sound has been imitated so many times since then that it doesn't sound so groundbreaking now. You have to keep in mind that it's 25 years old when listening to it.

THIS IS A MODERN BAND!!

One of the best pop band ever. Highly imitated these days along with the stooges and the pixies.
I discoverd them through "More songs about building and food", the first song 'Thank U for sending me an angel' sounded to me just like 'Trompe le monde' (the song) did at first listen. It sounded like a good evidence.

Their 3 albums with eno is undoubtedly their best. And for extra, listen to 'My life in the Bush of ghosts' by Byrne and Eno. A REAL modern album too.

Byrne's solo career is great. He now sings VERY well and have very refined taste. i saw him live and it was a fantastic performance. I recommend his two latest albums: 'Look into the eyeball' and 'Grown Backward' some songs are so genuinely nice that they remind me of the perfect achievment of the finest Presley soft songs... (c'est dire!)

I'm not in love!!!

Don't forget to bring a towel.

I'm listening to Remain In Light now from the library, it's wonderful.

I've seen Arcade Fire once on TV and all I could think is David Byrne.

They had their chance to reunite after their Hall of Fame induction. I don't expect a reunion, but I don't know anything.
hWolsky Posted - 03/22/2005 : 08:24:32
Great band, "Thank you for sending me an angel" was a rare sonic revelation... Their "Berliner Trilogy" is timeless. Byrne in live is professional beautiful and efficient.

I used to listen to "found a job" in loop watching the twin towers falling over and over in september 01.... Very weird feeling

So many bands today, including the most obvious Franz Ferdinand, simply duplicate their feeling.
One more legend you can expect a reunion quite soon...

Repent...

I always loved 'And She Was'. Great video. It's a kind of Pixies-ish sounding tune.
Newo Posted - 03/22/2005 : 05:24:43
It likes me, and a couple of my friends are digging Desconicido Soy at the moment.

Hey, i missed this!

I will sometimes respond to shouts of "Psycho Killer!!" at our gigs with a rendition of Psycho Killer...and I do my best to hit the wierd-ass, shaking, 'I'm freekin nuts' David Byrne delivery as accurately as possible.
Why tamper with perfection?

Frip, Eno, Heads...artists making music, amazing music.

The first time I heard I Zimbra I literally did one of those head turning things,
I unconsciously whipped my head around toward the music. I'd never heard
anything like it.

There's an old conversation about the Talking Heads, hehe.

I love the song "Animals" the most now, I think. Mmm..

Thanks Vovat, it's always surprising to have new news about the Pixies, new news for me!

And I did knew the site, but sometimes I don't read all, lazy me.

Phew! Thanks for explaining both about the song (I know the site, I haven't gone thru it as carefully as you have) and about your initial comments. I was starting to get all weepy, my chin was quivering and I was going to bawl.

Sheesh, read your Alec Eiffel, people!

From the "Titles" page at http://aleceiffel.free.fr/index_alec.html:

DIG FOR FIRE
"Stupid lyrics. One of the really first we practiced together. It took us 4 years and several computers to make it sound OK." (BF)
"Oh, it's all nonsense, a bad Talking Heads imitation" (BF)

"Very derivative of the Talking Heads. It's probably about the summer I spent as an archaeology student, working on a burial ground and looking at the sky." (Frank Black in SELECT, October 1997)

(And, just to make myself totally safe, I'll point out that the indignation I expressed in the opening sentence to this post was not at all sincere, and I do not think less of anyone who isn't aware of the Eiffel site. It is, however, an excellent resource for Pixies information, and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Thank you, and good night. Or, more accurately, afternoon.)

Used to love the talking heads and my ex ruined them for me as well:(
Last show we went to together was david byrne solo over the summer:(
Bitch. Can't I enjoy the life I had before I meet her? Seeing phish on 10/31/96 was awesome. They performed the "remain in light" album! I was amazed!
kathryn Posted - 02/11/2005 : 11:31:53
I didn't know that about Dig for Fire, VV! Can you tell me more, please?

Denis, those are three good albums. If I were to choose just three
Heads albums, it would be those.

I love what I know about TH but unfortunately I don't hve many albums by them. I got '77, Fear Of Music (my fave) and Remain In Light.

And I think Peter Gabriel "borrowed" some inventive techniques first used in the Road to Nowhere video from Byrne for the award winning Sledgehammer video.

All I have by the band is the Sand in the Vaseline 2-CD set, but there are a lot of great songs on there. My two favorites are probably "Don't Worry About The Government" and "(Nothing But) Flowers."

And we can't forget that "Dig For Fire" is a Talking Heads homage.

I think 'Once In A Lifetime' is maybe the perfect pop song.

Plus, really big suits are always going to be cool.

I remember playing "More songs" in Barcelona right after it came out
and smoking hash and staring out the window and thinking it was the
best music I'd ever heard in my life.
