Does anyone else here like them?
I've really gotten into them a lot lately. I saw the concert movie "Stop Making Sense" and the band had so much energy! Especially David Byne..My god that man can entertain! After seeing the concert I stole my dad's Talking Head cd's and have been loving them.
My favorite songs so far are probably "Girlfriend is Better" and "Psycho Killer". Yummy.
Totally unique music. Really blows me away. I know Charles is a fan too and that "Dig For Fire" is a Talking Heads impersonation.

I never noticed the TH influence in Dig For Fire, but it's very clear now. I do like Talking Heads a lot, though I only own 77, Fear Of Music (my fave) and Remain In Light.
Is anazgnos still here? I remember he loved the band.

AND SHE WAS is my favorite Talking Heads song, although I love PEOPLE LIKE US and DREAM OPERATOR and STAY UP LATE too. I could go on and on. When I was growing up my dad and his partner would have a party every summer (this was the late 80's and early 90's) and we would play TALKING HEADS and dance and dance. It was very fun and the songs will always remind me of that time.
Have you seen TRUE STORIES yet? I love that movie.

True stories is a great movie. I love talking heads too. great to dance too! great for a festival tape too. Altho my friends didnt appreiciate it last year...but they had no idea who TH are...so yeah

| Love the first four albums, haven't really listened to the rest much. "Fear of Music" is my fave (especially Side A). Funky guitar, great rhythm section. |

Remain In Light is my favorite because Once In A Lifetime is on it.
77 Is excellent too. I love Tentative Decisions and Psycho Killer. I'm listening to 77 right now, the first time in about 5 years.

I've just gotten into this band since this past New Year's Eve; I saw the Stop Making Sense DVD and it blew me away. I've heard five of the records and I think Fear of Music is my favourite, though the first one is right up there too. I've never really been too crazy about Speaking in Tongues, so I thought maybe the well was just running dry until I heard some of David Byrne's solo stuff. In a way I was crushed because it seems he's carried out some ideas I thought were mine alone, but on the other hand it's quite gratifying because I know I never would have done it anyway. He's playing the Folk Fest here in a couple of weeks, I'm so excited!

I love Talking Heads, so I don't know why I haven't gotten everything yet. I think David Byrne is out the other side of soul music.
Heard a funny story on NPR a couple of years ago about this southern gothic musician that later was produced/helped by Byrne. While driving a cab, Jim White saw Byrne walking down the sidewalk. He loved David like a hero. He yelled "super-white!!" at him over and over, trying to voice his approval (because he's nerdy and awkward, but yet is the essence of very cool), and I think he was right on, though maybe a bit crazy. 
I can't think of many of their songs that I don't think of as a favorite when they start playing.
Apropos of nothing in particular, the movie "Re-Animator" had Talking Heads posters all over the place. Kinda funny.  |

What's cool about Stop Making Sense is prop-wise and gag-wise, there isn't much to their stage show. It's purely the energy that provides the entertainment. But when you reflect on the show you feel like there must have been tons of extra stuff on stage with how entertained you remember being, but no, when you go back, it's mostly just the performers kicking ass. That's how it should be.
I like the Talking Heads, more so the first half of their career, before they got all world beat and shit.
"Dig For Fire" is a total Talking Heads homage.

I love so many Talking Heads songs that I don't know if I could even name a favorite. For today I'll pick "Heaven," "Big Country," and "City of Dreams." I'm in a slow T.H. mood today, but tomorrow the list could be totally different.
I found True Stories on DVD for 5 bucks yesterday and scooped that puppy right up! |

Ha! Me too! It's not that I don't like it, it's just that its pace is pretty relaxed and there's not much of a through-line to hang your hat on. I have made it all the way through, but it took me several sleepy false starts to finally do it. I could give the world's laziest woman a run for her money. |

You all might want to check out Byrne's score for The Catherine Wheel (a dance production), if you haven't yet. Those who were disappointed with post-Eno Talking Heads (and everything since from Byrne) should appreciate it.
(later) I got this out and I am listening to it for the first time in quite a while. Now I have to make a stronger recommendation: this is essential for anybody. |

Great band. I haven't heard most of their albums, but I have the Sand in the Vaseline collection, so I know the hits (relatively speaking), I guess. My favorites are probably "Don't Worry About The Government" and "(Nothing But) Flowers."
