This happened in the city where I live, outside of a concert on the main street in front of Ohio State University's campus. It was buried in the news when it occured. I only happened to hear a blip about it in the middle of the night on Coast to Coast AM (a late night radio talk show that partially inspired the X-Files), and I have finally taken the time to dig it up.

I guess the moral of this story is, speak your mind at your own risk, and also, the youth are our future.

"COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Political tensions reportedly reached the boiling point early Friday near the Ohio State campus.

Several members of the political action group "Punk Voter," said they were jumped outside the Newport Music Hall, located at 13th Avenue and Pearl Alley, NBC 4 reported. One member of the group was reportedly knocked unconscious and was transported to The Ohio State University Medical Center.

Police made one arrest, NBC 4 reported.
"Punk Voter" is a political group from Florida that is traveling to key battleground states to spread its anti-Bush message, NBC 4 reported."

Of course the mainstream and alternative-left press said nothing of it, and I suppose those of us aware of it declined to mention it here because we are accustomed to pro-Kerry bias in the press and elsewhere. Despite hysterics to the contrary, the true enemies of free speech would seem to be centered on the left.

Wait, doesn't free speech also mean the freedom NOT to say stuff if you so choose? Granted, it isn't exactly fair to only mention violence taken by the people you're against, but I can't recall anyone saying we weren't ALLOWED to bring up anti-Bush violence.

Holy crap, this may be the single greatest post in the two years I've been reading this board.

http://instapundit.com/archives/week_2004_10_03.php

If one explores the instapundit.com archives one will finds stories and links on a series of attacks on local Bush headquarters, with suspicion focused on unions, surprise surprise. For months now the balance of violent campaign abuse has come from the dems. Many reports of vandalism toward homes and cars sporting pro-Bush sentiment. In particular, San Francisco would seem to be a place to avoid assumption of freedom of expression. Yes, I mean that.

Because I didn't hear of any other stories.

I disagree completely.

It is relevant. It's about the right to express oneself in a free society without feeling threatened. You seem to have a problem with that idea, given your response. It doesn't matter to me which "side" this happens against - wrong is wrong. Partisan affiliation is no substitute for rational thought or due diligence, and is rarely a good basis for personal morality. That is how dictatorships happen - either way (communist/fascist). I welcome an open debate, but insults and rhetoric don't qualify.

I think the media that we listen to or watch that shapes our opinions is a much more interesting discussion. In fact I think I'll start a new thread to see if anyone would like to share their sources and opinions.

its kind of a chicken and egg situation. Are your opinions a certain way because you watch a certain station, or do you watch that station because you have certain opinions. A media watch dog group recently did a study, as related in Outfoxed, in which it was shown that the more you watch fox news, the less likely you were to actually answer correctly questions about current events. Is this because Fox misinforms its viewers, or do viewers watch fox because it doesn't challenge their views and preconcieved notions? Sorry, this whole thing has been one huge tangent. i apologize.

As to the story, it is always unsettling to hear about voters being disenfrancised. It happens on both sides, it should stop, but it won't.

There is no point dicussing the topic, it is irrelevant.

There are idiots on both sides who have nothing of substance to contribute so they resort to violence and vandalism. It happens to both campaigns. Bush campaign offices have been shot at and vandalised. Bush supporters have been assaulted just like the Kerry punks. Who cares? It has nothing to do with the issues at hand or the campaigns.

I think the media that we listen to or watch that shapes our opinions is a much more interesting discussion. In fact I think I'll start a new thread to see if anyone would like to share their sources and opinions.

Wait.

Shit. There was some beautiful vigilante scenario playing out in my head.

Now it's all replaced with some frat guys beating up on some fellas wearing "Atreyu" tees. Man.

Take a bite of the chocolate coffin.

I don't appreciate your personal attack.

Perhaps you should turn off all the noise for awhile. It will help clear your head.

Nice job ignoring the topic. One can only assume you don't have anything to say about something you find threatening to your way of thinking, so you are attempting to distract by making rude and completely unfounded personal attacks.

Take it to email like the forum FAQ stipulates, or just ignore this thread.
