Posted - 09/27/2006 : 09:24:49 Are you gonna be re-recording the "vocals"? I'm not sure how much I'd be able to do with the ones on your myspace.
A tip for recording with cheapy PC mics: keep the mic like a foot away from your mouth, those little mics can't take much sound pressure and will tend to distort, no matter how low the input setting on your PC/recording software is.
Also, putting the mic side off-axis (so it's pointing right at your mouth but not dead infront of it) will cut down on the amount of "popping" produced when say P words.

Posted - 09/25/2006 : 05:18:21 A decent mic and compression makes all the difference, specially for spoken word stuff. A compressor kinda levels off the peaks so it's nicer and easier to listen to.
Hell, I could compress and EQ your "voice-over" as well as doing the drums if you so wish it- I don't have a lot to do at the moment, and it would probably be the best/most helpful thing to do with my time..

Posted - 09/24/2006 : 18:44:46 wow, thanks doog, drevil and mcil for all the help!! drevil i was able to download audicy. I re-recorded everthing. I couldn't figure out though how to put a beat in the background. I will check out the site you suggested mcil.
if any of you have time check it out at www.myspace.com/americasnaps2. I really wish it sounded better to the ear, but really don't have a musical bone in my body (or a good sounding voice) to figure out how to make it better.
suggestions are welcome....
thanks again ;)

Posted - 09/24/2006 : 11:42:25 I downloaded Acoustica Mixcraft immorally from Limewire, it lets you record with multiple tracks, just now I just plug my amp into to microphone hole in my computer, which works, but obvuiously isn't the best. It's OK for getting stuff down for memories sake, but I will have to invest in some kind of input device

1) Do you own a soundcard? It's a good investment. Most soundcards come with some kind of audio-software, very often a cut down version of some audio-sequencer that would probably suit your needs.
2)Freeware:
Use audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) - it's free - to sample, edit and loop sounds from your cds. You can also use it to record vocals over your beats. It supports VST effects.
I haven't tested these, but I found a couple of freeware squencers:
http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/ http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/SoftwareHouse/Products/Audio_Master/Freeware/freeware.phtml http://ardour.org/ http://www.mutools.com/products.html http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/software.php/id/7014/audio/Sequencers/
These would provide you with ok flexibility regarding recording, editing and mixing possibilities.
OR, you could by the rather crappy Computer Music Magazine that includes a free dvd with plenty of free software and tutorials that would suit your needs to begin with.
Fruity Loops/FL Studio is a cheap way of recording, editing and programming beats. You may also record your voice and add other instruments as well. And you can use softsynths and stuff. It's fun and way better than it's reputation. Acid may be worth considering if you intend to do a lot of loop based stuff.
3) There are planty of resources on the net - just search for home recording f.x.:
http://homerecording.about.com/ - for the basics http://www.kevinkemp.com/homerecordingtutorial/ http://www.soundonsound.com/ good magazine, a lot of free articles - a bit advanced perhaps?
Good luck:)

Posted - 09/23/2006 : 20:21:27 Doog... thanks.... I am going to think about the songs and get back to you..... it might take me a week or two...but I can't say thanks enough ;)
I guess too that then the question would be how to mix every thing.
I have been using this Microsoft sound recorder that's pretty basic. It won't let me play a track and then record at the same time...

Posted - 09/23/2006 : 16:34:39 I'm not sure offhand where to direct you, but I'd be more than happy to sample and loop some drumbeats from your chosen tunes?
