You guys may remember way back in October when a local journalist in Montreal mentioned the following (as kindly translated by Vilainde):

quote:

<<A rumour was spread that Frank Black may have a cameo in the new season of "The Invincibles". "Yeah, I was asked if I was willing to do a cameo in a French-Canadian soap opera. I said yes, absolutely, why not? It'll be a new experience to me. I don't know yet what they're gonna make me play. I might be the prodigal son coming back or some kind of estranged father who reappears to end a story, I don't know. I don't speak French very well. If they could make me have a line where I'd say 'L'addition s'il vous plait' in a restaurant...", he jokes.

On the stage of the Invincibles, they hesitated in confirming the rumour. Jean-François Rivard, writer and director of the popular series and big fan of good music and Pixies - and of Black Letter Days by FB&TC especially - walked on eggshells. "It's supposed to work, but I'll believe it when I see Frank Black finally appear over here."

Denis

Well, FB just appeared on the show tonight, at the beginning of the episode, greeting viewers with "Auparavant, dans Les Invincibles" ("previously on The Invincibles") while doing the dishes in the kitchen. Funny. The phrase was subtitled in French and his name was showing.

I haven't seen the whole show so I don't know if we hear a song or see something else FB related.

OK, the soundtrack was released back in June. It's really expensive on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Invincibles-Original-Soundtrack/dp/B000R5HEKW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-5141672-7603048?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1191163010&sr=8-1 but you can download Where is my Mind only for $1.09 (CAD, that's now probably worth what, $2 USD?) http://www.archambault.ca/store/Product.asp?mscssid=&sku=001989219&type=1.

The version is pretty good with a nice brass section which gives another dimension to the song. The rest of the album sounds good but I'm not sure I like her softer style.

Do you think the Pixies were a brouillon of Black Francis?
Czar Posted - 03/26/2007 : 06:18:25
OK, Kim Bingham told me by email that a soundtrack of the show will be issued, WIMM cover should be included.

Yes, FB first, then BF, it seems more logical.

that would be nice, but commercialy speaking that's a non-sense

The Man mentioned in a now-deleted post that he expected "Bluefinger" to come out this summer, but wasn't any more specific. I think he should release "Bluefinger" first, though I doubt it's in his control. If it's a huge hit (in my cheese-driven dreams), that would then help the sales of the best-of.

at least that sounds logic: the best of before the new album

Well... it's written on the Internets! Must be true!
vilainde Posted - 03/21/2007 : 06:13:31
Ha! I guessed that was someone from the forum but I didn't realize it was you. June is the release date for the best of, but I don't think there's ever been a mention of a release date for Bluefinger.

Euh... it's me who posted that based on my humble understanding of the discussions here. Am I mistaken?

June!? if that was true it would be awe-fuckin'-some!

no hehe it's not joual, he's just rushing the words "auparavant" (earlier) and "invincibles" in a strange way.

You mean the show, Kathryn? It's standard local French as used by the 25-35 age group the show caters to with a definite level of success here. http://www.radio-canada.ca/television/les_invincibles/index.shtml

Oh. And how neat: http://www.myspace.com/lesinvincibles This sports Horrible Day as a soundtrack. And there's a description of the show in English.
kathryn Posted - 03/20/2007 : 18:14:25
Is it joual or actual French?

Ok... I have more to say now.

There was a cover of Where Is My Mind? during the episode, towards the end. It was performed by http://www.kimbingham.com/ a local artist who used to be with the ska band Me, Mom & Morgenthaler in the early 90s. Check her out, she rawks quite a bit. She does the orginal score for the show, the opening theme is quite good. I sent an email to her to try figure out if this version of WIMM is available for the fan's hearing pleasure. Stay tuned!

I'm trying to get details from this guy (a techie from the set) and I'll post them here if I'm lucky.

To quote the late edbanky, he's turning into Kate Moss. Every time I see a picture of Frank Black, he's thinner. Lookin' good, dude.
