Posted - 03/12/2007 : 14:53:48 Frank mentioned years ago in a press release (for "Dog In The Sand", I believe) regarding the live to 2-track recording method, that on the s/t Catholics album there were 2 razor edits, and on "Pistolero" there was one.
Does anyone know where they are? It's something that I've been curious about ever since I read it. I'm thinking that the one razor edit on "Pistolero" might be the intro to "So. Bay" (reason being, I think the transition from the intro to the song is a bit too flawless to be live), but I could be wrong.
As for the Catholics' debut, I am completely stumped. I can't even guess where the edits could be. The whole album is so raw, you can't even imagine edits.
Anybody know? Maybe the man himself, perhaps...?
Chris.

Awesome, Thank You Very Much!!!
In "Western Star"... would that be the part where Scott does that cymbal crash going into the "Dancing to the new bolero" part?

Posted - 03/14/2007 : 22:39:54 I'm pretty sure I can hear it in I Switched You, but maybe that's just me trying to hear things.

Posted - 03/14/2007 : 20:03:12 OK, so for the debut, we think one of the two edits is in "I Need Peace".
For Pistolero, however, we've heard several theories. I originally thought it was the intro to "So. Bay", then Grotesque thinks it was in "So Hard To Make Things Out", while Transmarine says that Frank has said the edit was in "I Switched You" (and listening to it last night, I think I could hear where it might be in that song).
Interesting that the album that supposedly only has one edit has more than one theory of where that edit is, but the album that has 2, has only one theory.
Let's keep 'em coming until we get the real answer.
Ya know, this would make an interesting topic for the podcast.
Rock On, Chris.

Posted - 03/13/2007 : 16:38:16 Interesting to hear what everyone's thoughts on the edits are. I recently discovered that Ben Mumphrey has a myspace page. I was thinking about shooting him a message, asking about these edits. But I don't wanna seem like some annoying fan. I mean, this guys a professional. I wouldn't wanna piss him off.
Let's keep this going, I'm dying to know the answers!!!
Rock On, Chris.
p.s., Ben has a lot of nice pics of himself w/ Frank, Kim and Kelley, etc. on his myspace. Really neat stuff if you haven't seen it. He also says he's an engineer on the upcoming Breeders album. The lucky dog, he gets all the cool jobs! ;)

Posted - 03/13/2007 : 14:58:28 I remember reading years and years back that the Pistolero edit was in I SWITCHED YOU. I could be wrong. I could be right. Maybe Frank will chime in and set us straight. Come on, Chuck! Where's the edit?

Posted - 03/12/2007 : 15:44:55 "The Sad Punk change"... I like that. ;)
That would require a VERY steady hand and a very sharp razorblade to do an edit like that!!!
Seriously though, lets keep this thread going, I'd love to find this out.
Doesn't Ben Mumphrey post here every once in awhile?
Chris.
