Update:

See thread for London show details.

Original Post:

Frank will be opening for the Foo Fighters on August 23rd in Toronto. Tickets are now sold out at 67 bones a pop - more than a little pricey for 40 minutes of Frank then a mediocre grunge band playing acoustic guitar. The next show is two days later in Chicago.

My question is this:

Toronto loves Frank, and I think the feeling is mutual since the last time he was here sans-Pixies he played 5 days at the Horseshoe. That being said, is there a chance that a late 23rd or 24th Frank solo show could be added to this tour? I believe it's a possibility. I hope there is a chance. It would be grand.

There is nothing wrong with wishful thinking.
Cheers,
1c

I live in the falls and I belive your right Chunk seem every one here lives under rocks, lets face it Niagara falls will always be one step behind, "The Powers That Be" are just going in the wrong direction

So it is depressing

But the city of St Cathariens has a bit to offer s.c.e.n.e music festival lots of bands one day event and grape & wine is a good time

I'm late to the party here, but just wanted to say what a great show that was. I can't believe how good he sounded - so rare that someone sounds that much better live than recorded.

Just a fantastic show, I was floored. My wife and I drove about 3-4 hours for the show and it was well worth it. We've decided we have to do the Toronto show at the Opera house as well now.

Saw beds there, he was standing about 2 feet in front of me.

Regarding london...I lived there for a year about 5 years ago, and i gotta agree, that town is about as depressing as can be (imo). I was happy to get out (went to niagra phalls for a few days after, that place is depressing in a different sort of way).

not to mention the gorgeous lead solo at the the end of the track, Lyle Workman rules. so glad he's back in Frank's circle again. I was REALLY hoping for Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day, as far as Honeycomb tracks went.

Seeing heads bopping and lips moving for all that solo material was a joy! It was nice to be surrounded to by fellow FRANK fans rather than folks who just own Surfer Rosa and Doolittle

reggie young on that lead...

Let me help you understand: "It's all Disco, Baby!"

As well, "Living on Soul" has been left of the setlist thusfar.

It was raining. I agree that London is no Buffalo. Actually, that venue is a rotten place to see a band. I've been to it many times, but there's only about 60-80 people that really get a good show. However, I like it and enjoy that they crammed a 300-capacity live venue into a 100 year old, little hotel.

And I liked the show and thought the crowd was receptive and even knew the majority of the setlist.
fazer_eyes Posted - 08/26/2006 : 10:41:32
i drove from toronto, your right i have no desire to go to london again. fit the mood of the concert though, wouldnt you say?
[/quote]

what mood was that exactly? i thought there were fairly good vibes throughout the room...a couple of you guys are really making the night seem like a big mopefest! what's the deal?

he didn't play bad harmony, I'm pretty darn sure that the western star/billy radcliffe double shot was the only pistolero moment of the evening. there were a few numbers that I was unfamiliar with, that 'Water' song, for example...were there any ODDBALLS tunes in there, perhaps?

Brank_Flack Posted - 08/25/2006 : 23:17:00

i must say, london, ontario is a very sad town. the opener ( i dunno his name) was the saddest (in many ways) singer songwritter i've heard in my several lifetimes now. the people and cars in london all seem to be grey in colour. there is definately a youth narcotics epedemic in the downtown area as well. i did very much enjoy the venue and of course the show. i just don't understand people dancing to "my life's in storage". i don't believe i will ever return to this city. i was very excited for my little road trip to Canadia, but don't think i'll be returning anytime soon (oh shit, yo la tengo is playing in toronto in october). you had some decent beers, and your little thames river was cute. i've gotta say -- the people were just fucking weird -- they seem to move even slower than those i've met on my travels to the deep south. there is no sense of urgency or purpose, it made me sad and uncomfortable. i was very glad to get back to my country today.

especially if Velouria isn't one of them.

ha! Amen! the Pixies opened their set with Velouria at the Molson Ampitheatre in Toronto last summer, which pretty much made my summer.

I wish he'd dip into Tromp le Monde a bit more...that record probably just stirs up bad memories or something, kinda like Time Fades Away for Neil Young...or something like that.

Motorway to Roswell or Letter To Memphis would be SWEET, ya know?

Last night in London was indeed a night to treasure...if he'd just played something from Cult of Ray and Devil's Workshop, he would have touched EVERY solo record. the anticipation between numbers was half the fun "which of his 472 amazing songs is he gonna pull out next?"

Whoa. What an excellent set. I love that he played Adda Lee, Western Star, Big Red, storage, Fitzy, Massif, and I've seen your picture! I hope when I see The Man with band the setlist is like this but larger. I think 5+ Pixies tunes is a little excessive, though, especially if Velouria isn't one of them.

What an entertainer! I've never been floored by a solo performance before - it was very powerful. Everyone I was with had an amazing time and so did the entire crowd. Great response after every track. My personal highlights were Raiderman, Suffering (!), and Western Star. Can't wait til the next show with the band, but to be honest, it's gonna be hard topping that performance. Cheers,

Great show! I was hoping for more of the early solo songs he's been playing (Brackish, Headache) but still, very good setlist.

You can certainly tell the last couple years have dusted the cobwebs off the ol' screaming voice. He turned up the vocal intensity on many FB songs that never used to be like that, including some *fierce* growls on Massif Centrale.
coastline Posted - 08/25/2006 : 04:27:35
Right on -- he did another Honeycomb track -- Another Velvet Nightmare. I keep wondering how these songs will come out when it's just him and the acoustic. I hope a recording of this show eventually turns up.

Look, a pony!
beds Posted - 08/25/2006 : 04:07:35
He did a great job and didn't bail on any songs. Greast setlist, I thought. Unfortunately, my recording gear didn't test too well and I didn't tape the show.
vilainde Posted - 08/25/2006 : 01:04:08
Suffering! Man I need to have a boot of that gig. Did he manage to yell even more than on Dead Man's Curve?

amazing-another velvet nightmare and suffering. I would never expect him to play those songs solo. Very cool i bet the show kicked ass

The venue website says show at 9:30 with another dude opening the gig, so probably FB at 10:30. But to be safe, I'd be there soon after 930.

I am extra hyped about this show after reading the set lists. See you guys there tonight. Cheers,

I saw Frank play at Call the Office 10 years ago in 1996 when I was a student at Guelph University. He opened with The Marsist (as it was the COR tour) and I remember how crazy the little place went when the guitar riff started. As a Boston resident during the Pixies' first go-round, seeing him there was surreal. Until I saw him at the Beachcomber last Friday.

Charles - I noticed you like Sopranos pinball!
