they really seem to be extending and altering a fair few of the songs, which i love. sure only in small ways, but just enough to keep it interesting. songs that i noticed major differences to the brixton shows were gouge away, debaser and cactus, which incidently were ythe first 3.... and fantastic version of vamos...at just over 6 minute, is also the longest version i've heard..love it!
just a pity martin's battery died after 55mins, but the 55min he got are great, and it is a fantastic recording.... one of the best audience pixies ones i've got...

yeah that's what I thought too up front the sound was way too hard and at the back of the venue it was muddy and soft that sucks I guess That should lose some of that speakers at the side of the stage and place them anywhere else

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 03:19:01 Not the band's problem - they were great. It's just a shit venue. There are much better places in Amsterdam (Pixies in Paradiso could have been the best gig in the history of the universe), but the HMH has the biggest capacity.

The sound in the HMH seems to lack in the back. Up front it was really loud, but good nonetheless.
It was my first time at the HMH, but it's a nice venue for that size. And you don't find many with air conditioning. You really felt it was winter during Snow Patrol (how apt).
So both critical post here (Doryphore and Broken Part) just confirmed my opinion: Never watch a show from way too far in the back.

It's the same question I've for you ...

What was that fucking noise I had for two days in my ears, after the concert ???
>>I expected to go out with my ears thumping. >>I didn't.
Were you in the Hall or out ?
>>And they should really do something to >>ventilate that place.
ROTFL. There was air conditioning !!! And during the Snow Patrol's concert it was really cold !!! I guess you've never been in a concert with thousand of people and without air conditioning. And in the summer. That sucks !
>>There was something wrong with Frank guitar
Everybody (not blind/deaf) noticed it.
>>On the other hand nothing in the universe >>will ever top their gig in Ljubljana.
Everybody has his favourite concert.

yeah, did you attent the same gig!
My ears were bleeding for 2 days the sound was way too loud! Ventilate that place? It had airconditioning! It was pretty cool up front The venue was ok, I personally would like to see them in a small venue, but that wouldn't be fair to the amount of pixies fans who wouldn't have a ticket

Posted - 07/11/2004 : 13:13:20 OK. Lets get a few things straight? Which Pixies Amsterdam show did you people go to? The same one as I, at HMH?
.... it was the worst concert I have ever been to.
I've only seen them live twice so one has to be the worst and the other the best, but still, it was pretty poor. The venue was shit. No athmoshepre no nothing. Built like a hangar they might as well parked a plane in it. The sound was shit with feedback on the vocals when there shouldn't have been one and volume wasn't loud enough. I expected to go out with my ears thumping. I didn't. And they should really do something to ventilate that place. I'm surprised Frank didn't choke, all that smoke can't be good for his voice.
There was something wrong with Frank guitar or sound at the start he had to call a roadie on stage in the middle of the first number for something. It's true the band was good (as always) and with Frank in full screaming mode not holding anything back there were some high points like u-mass and vamos but all in all it was lacklustre. The fact that they didn't do a second encore kinda shows it. Just as well since I was nodding off towards the end.
On the other hand nothing in the universe will ever top their gig in Ljubljana. |

I haven`t got a scanner, i can make a picture... Meanwhile i`ll tell you the story of my setlist. When Gigantic was played, the Pixies went off stage. Me and my girlfriend were standing in the front, screaming Pixies, just like the other fans :) But it didn`t help, the big lights went on, and everybody wanted to get out of there.. Except for a bunch of 30 people in the front row.... The roadies came on stage, taking the guitars etc. of stage and we screamed: Setlist Setlist Setlist ;).. The roadie was lookin` at us and he gave the setlist to a friendly security agent and the security agent puts his eyes closed and threw it to us.... thats where i catching it :) Im very happy in it, and everybody next to me, could shoot me :)

Posted - 07/07/2004 : 09:43:30 Hi all,
First of all I would like to start with saying the following: THE CONCERT WAS FUCKING GREAT.
I had a great time there, standing close in front of the stage. So I could see everything very well. In the beginning there were some people jumping around like crazy (but ok, I can imagine it a little bit). Two girls dancing like crazy in front of me, can it be more perfect?! I guess not. The only (little) sad thing was that I had to go after four numbers of Bettie Serveert (stupid trains).
BTW thank you Ernesto for posting the setlist.
If one of the girls knows who I am talking about, just reply with your time .
PS: until now I only found two pics on the internet from the concert. I can hardly believe that these are the only two...so post the links to the pics please.
