Posted - 06/02/2004 : 15:27:56 what a fantastic show. was the most high-energy gig i have ever been too. the band was totally hot, the crowd was unbelievable and the sound was actually really good.
started with winterlong, and the show for me really got going with vamos which i think was 4th with normal speed version of nimrods son and holiday song in between.
1 encore of gigantic, wave of mutilation (normal) and finished with into the white.
what a fucking great gig....
bring on tomorrow.
oh, and the delays were actually pretty good - i was very pleasantly suprised.

did you get on a train from paddington after the gig? me and my mate (both wearing red t-shirts) were near a guy and a girl, and the girl at one point was complaining about how they didn't play where is my mind. i wanted to say how i didn't think it was that great, but i was too scared :)

No, we were stuck on the Central Line for ages because some genius decided he wanted to walk down the track!
The complaints were more in jest (although it is her favourite song). But she deserves kudos; can't be that many people who were sat on the floor reading a copy of "My Horse" magazine while the support act were playing |

On XFM's site it says Dave Lovering's magic show is the support tonight. If you get down the front he might call you up on the stage.

Last night you could have still quite easily have got in front of the front crowd barrier just after the Delays had finished. But it got really packed there by the time the Pixies came on. We got to the venue at 7:10 and it took about 10 minutes to get in, we had the bonus of seeing Frank Black going into the tour bus whilst we queued.
When we got in the first two rows were taken so we went in the third row in front of where Kim played and stayed there all night
was still geting served when winterlong was playing , got down the front okay though using the "usual methods"

Same here. I had just gotten back from the toilet and then may mate decides to go. Of course they came on JUST as he left so I had to wait for him (don't know why seeing as I lost him as soon as I got to the front. I was about three people off the front, pretty much dead centre, although the crowd did sway from left to right a little. The moshpit was pretty crazy, not the craziest I have been in but there were a few moments where I thought the whole crowd was gonna fall over. There were a few dickheads who I sensed wanted trouble, but other than that everyone was loving it. Had some 'wired' South African guy chatting to me at the end (and everyone else it seemed) about how great they were and such like.
But anyway, yeah AMAZING gig. Still pretty stunned, hasn't sunk in yet.
Did anyone else think that Kim didn't smile/seem as up for it as much as in the past (including my Minneapolis CD)? She is normally the most psyched!!! I got the impression that perhaps they were a little bit more humbled/bewildered by the reaction at Brixton. It seemed ot be a lot crazier than Minneapolis. That's my opinion anyway.
Enjoy the show, for those who are going!!!

I think they were due to come back on for a second encore because the guitar tecnicians set up the guitars. I suspect Frank was not to happy with the amount of crowd surfing taking place during the Into the White in the first encore. Hope they do Where is my Mind on the Friday or Saturday shows. Anyone else had any problems with the Netburn download? Mine only downloaded the first 3 tracks on each disk. I have a ticket out with them so hopefully it will be resolved.
What!?!?!? Why would he not be happy about that??? Talk about a shot in the dark!!!

Posted - 06/03/2004 : 11:48:22 Pixies Brixton Academy, London Article written by Matt H Jun 3, 2004 http://www.soundsxp.com/850.shtml
Joyful return of the best band in the universe ever? Embarrasing invasion of the pie eaters? Erm, never did understand what all the fuss was about? There are no new angles on the Pixies reunion.
What I can say is that last night there was a tangible sense of anticipation that you'd have thought any band was going to struggle to live up to. This didn't seem to bother the Pixies. In a manner that once would have rated as very rock 'n roll, they sauntered calmly onstage and proceeded to nonchalantly knock out an hour and a bit of their familiarly (im)perfect masterpieces. Having never caught them live first time around, the thing that struck me most was simply how much better they are at music than so many of their contemporaries both now and then. From Joey Santiago's studied noise-making, to Kim Deal's sardonic vocal, to David Lovering's enthusiasm and Black Francis' goofy holler, they are a band not so much ahead of its time as entirely out of it. I was blown away.
Of course, the Pixies were right not to be bothered. There was so much, I hesitate to say it but, well, love in the place that most of the audience was going to have a good time regardless. So I can understand anyone who felt a little underwhelmed. But I don't think it's the Pixies that have changed - cheap jibes aside.
The world has moved on since the last time they were here. Our eardrums are jaded by thousand bands aping their guitar tricks and vocal quirks. A bunch of ordinary looking folks on stage has become the tedious norm rather than a refreshing break from theatrics and posing. Even their demented humour sounds more familiar - noisy hardcore bands having long since abandoned their dubious credos. (Henry Rollins has become the new Philippa Forrester for fuck's sake, chew on that while you're wondering what the Pixies are doing here!)
But the Pixies are not back to save the world or move music on. They're back to make some money and entertain us in the process. And though they may not be bringing us anything new, they did remind us of the heights that can be achieved. They were great and if anyone can truly point me in the direction of another rock band doing the rounds at the moment who could live up to last night, I'll be in the front row.

but yes, there was a VIP area - the missus and i were trying to find a way out afterwards and tried to go via the VIP door....we were told politely to go away.
we managed to find a nice spot just as the delays were beginning and stayed there without a problem. but yes, it definitely filled up fast once they had finished.
i had to pick my tickets up at the venue, so i had no queue and was inside the gig in approx 30 seconds.
