i finally downloaded the Spokane pictures onto my computer and came across one that CRACKED me up.

closeup:

not to open old wounds, but that was pretty funny. i guess we were right behind the backwards AFI cap incident.

who DIDN'T have a seizure during broken face? And i still dont think it was planned.

bop.
ruttentud Posted - 05/01/2004 : 15:20:36
Hey. The "false start" was planned as you said. But when they changed the levels when they left. I sounded better when they came back on. The opening band sucked ass. I was the youngest person there. 14 years old. I was with my other 14 year old buddies. It was so cool. Some lady had a seizure during Broken Face! The light show was insane. :)
I had a perfect view. In the middle of the floor. Perfect :) I want to see them at Bumbershoot and in Oregon at the amphitheater! I was in the car for 7 hours to get to Spokane!!! That sucked....and people kept farting ewwww

Ha! Yes, the whole theme of the facility is faux New Orleans. The restaurant is called Bourban Street. I'm not sure if you can see it in any of the photos, but the backdrop behind the stage is made to appear as though one is looking down a street in the French Quarter (which drew some hilarious commentary from Death Cab for Cutie when they played there). Also, there's a shopping area made up to look like 'Nawlins' on the West end that hasn't opened yet (I believe they're still soliciting for patrons -- the place has only been open for three months now). Kind of silly, but it's a great concert hall and the best thing that's happened to Spokane entertainment-wise in quite some time, so I'm not complaining (even if some of their policies are a pain in the ass).

The notorious puker has been revealed! Thanks for posting the link to that new set of photos S.P. Some of them are pretty blurry, but it looks like the photographer was close behind me for much of the show. If you look at image #009, that's the back/side of my head in the lower right corner. I can recognize my hair and ear and you can just make out my glasses through the blur (action photo!).

I always thought New Orleans was the big easy...

thanks for clearing that up
did you notice how many big and tall guys there were?
huge
what's in the water?
i'm so glad the show was last weekend because this weekend spokane is filled with 50,000 lialac runners.
i wonder if gorilla and bunny are in the race?

just keepin it real, like kim deal

I'm sorry, I should clarify.

When I was talking about ugly girls, I meant the girls that I saw at the bars after the show. Girls I assumed were local Spokane girls just out on the town on a Saturday night.

I did not mean to comment on the girls I saw at the actual Spokane show. Of course, since those girls were there to see the Pixies, all those girls were hot!
Sad Punk Posted - 04/29/2004 : 14:10:11
the thing i noticed was that there were a lot of people(girls) from out of town. maybe the spokane girls are hot, but were just not representin. which show had hot chicks? this seem about as important as the fast food debate. i'm interested in joey's pedals, kim's smile, who got the set list etc... not if someone took the name "the big easy" literally. i am sure you are one of the hot guys from spokane i met at the bars in town.

Hey.

I just returned to Philly from my cross-country jaunt to see the Spokane and Boise shows. I have to add my opinion on the Spokane opening.

I am pretty sure it was a planned stop and start. The reason was the Big Easy's damn Club Fusion Night. Club Fusion needed to start at 10pm, so obviously the Big Easy informed the Pixies of this.

I haven't heard the DiscLive CD yet, but I am pretty sure Frank said something like, "Gotta go now." and I am sure Kim said, "Yeah, it's Club Night". Kim was even shaking her head and laughing as they left the stage. I am sure they were just trying to give a big "FU" to the Big Easy.

Plus, they left the stage for a while. I mean, for an encore-like while. Not just a "lets get it together" type pause. I thought it was hilarious. But maybe I was the only one to get the joke.

Highlights for me were:
1. How Kim and Frank were standing and jamming together right at the end of Debaser - it gave me the chills.
2. The two versions of Wave of Mutilation - the 'slow' version to end the set and the 'fast' version to start the encore - way cool.
3. No. 13 Baby - wasn't sure they were going to play it. Underrated song I always thought.

This isn't a highlight, but as for the puker. I was behind him, which was better than being in front of him.

The other thing I noticed (sorry locals) was that there were some damn ugly girls in Spokane. Everyone was drinking a lot, which i guess is good, but I think they do it just to make everyone look better. Maybe I just went to the wrong bars?

I think I remember what the puke looked like more than the smell.

Very colorless.

Yeah, we were grooving to Zen Arcade. It had been so long since I'd listened to that (or any Husker Du for that matter). I was pretty much prepared for it from reading these forums. No Peter Paul and Mary however (which I was also expecting).
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 04/28/2004 : 08:02:21
Dave tossed out a couple cards in Saskatoon, but as he was walking off. It wasn't like he stood there throwing out cards.

was anyone else as pleased as i was to hear husker du's zen arcade playing before that weird opening band came onstage?
jangis Posted - 04/28/2004 : 01:53:24
OK, I just have to defend Lovering. I really don't know how. But let the man be himself. That's what I loved about the show. Frank was Frank, Kim was Kim, David was David, and Joey was Joey. But at the same time they were the Pixies again.

Did this make any sense?

Has the NyQuil kicked in?

I'm going to bed.
Mroocore Posted - 04/27/2004 : 22:04:35
when they walked onto stage it was hard for me to tell who was happier us or them. Kim kept that huge grin across her face the entire set. that woman is so cute. so many great things that i am still taking in. the Subbacultcha stunt planned or not added to the thrill. i am just too pleased w/ the entire show to complain about the many jerk-offs that were probably just having a good time at the cost of some others. five or six feet from Frank i stood(if you can call it that) just taking it all in. they blew me away, even though i had seen them 12 years ago i did not know what this would be like. they gave me everything i wanted and more. all i had to do was fly from Boston.

LONG LIVE THE PIXIES

it might be the hair. it might be the "creepy uncle who loves to bore you with magic tricks even though you're 17 years old" vibe. but yeah... i thought it was kinda cheeze too. i liked how a couple of girls dove over the barrier to their death trying to get a card. silly kids.

Spokane is the only place I saw him do that. A friend of mine got one of the cards. He'd written on it "Magically Yours".

Hahahahaahaha!!!! That's awesome!

"It quickly carries you into the land of 'tingling relaxation and ease.'"

Thanks Dave. You've made my evening. Now, if I could equip my bed with said device, I would have my night made for me too.

Seriously tho, thanks for posting that... that's great.

"No jogging suits / no plain t-shirts" etc. Damn, there's got to be worse things you can do at dance night than wear a jogging suit (not that anyone really would, right?) I wish I could remember the other rules. Pretty good stuff.

i think, as a rule, anything with the word "fusion" in the name is guaranteed to be ass.

that was the best show i've ever been to!!!!
mel gibson should start filming the passion2 . the pixies. the 2nd coming
i'm still flying high.
i liked it when i could just see fingers goin up in the important counting verse in monkey gone to heaven.
i liked that i said, "what's that smell?" as i was exiting the firetrap, instead of while i was in heaven.
(it was the puke, the young man probably was mixin his canadian junk food with his american fast food. kids today)
i never wanted the night to end, only 29 songs.
their pre-encore farewell was so warm and genuine, frank had a calming wave for someone who was just screaming up astorm.
why did i spend some of my rent money on a sweatshirt?
club fusion is my new running joke.
i am so thankful for disclive too.
THANKYOU PIXIES!!
and all the fb.net people that i didn't have time to meet.
