Posted - 06/15/2009 : 02:25:37 What time are they 'playing' tonight? I'm sorely tempted, last time I did a spur of the moment thing was the London precore......that was well worth it and I haven't washed my right hand since.......well I have but you know what I mean ;-) |

THE BIG EVENTS
Isle of Wight
June 12-14, Seaclose Park, Newport
The summer’s first big, mainstream festival has bagged Neil Young before he sets foot in Somerset, plus the Prodigy, Razorlight, Maxïmo Park, the Pixies and Pendulum. The original Isle of Wight’s reputation was for rock, but the revived festival caters equally for pop fans — McFly, Will Young and the Script share the bill. If you can’t face the ferry, the festival will be broadcast on ITV2, although a 10-minute trip on the water is surely preferable to hour of fluffy host Fearne Cotton.
Times Online - The festival survival guide; our top tips.
...How will you live?
Is a basic standard of living tied into your enjoyment of a weekend of music and, optimistically, sun? I met someone last week who went to Glastonbury in 2005, the year the camp sites were wiped out by flash floods. “It wouldn’t have been so bad,” she mused, clearly still scarred, “but I’d been there for six days before the festival even started, so I was already miserable.” The lesson? Pace yourself. And don’t pitch your tent next to a river. Or the toilets. Or floodlights.
Or the car park. Or the cast of Hollyoaks. I’ve tried them all. If camping really isn’t for you (and there’s no shame in that), then you could try one of the wonderful All Tomorrow’s Parties weekenders, which take place roughly three times a year at a Butlins holiday camp. Not only do you get bemused redcoats mingling with earnest Sonic Youth fans, the chalet accommodation means you also get a kitchen, a bed and a bathroom that isn’t shared with several thousand other people. Where reliving Hi-De-Hi! isn’t an option, there are still plenty of tent alternatives — rentable pods and seaside shacks make a happy medium at Glastonbury, most sites will let you bring in a caravan for a few extra quid, and if you choose a festival that’s within walking distance of a town centre, such as Reading, or London’s Wireless, you can cheat and stay in a hotel, like the bands do. I once shared a lift with Frank Black and Kim Deal. I’m a big Pixies fan. I didn’t say a word and they didn’t acknowledge my presence, but still — the Pixies! In a lift!... |

Posted - 04/16/2009 : 05:36:48 a bit from kim deal interview:
http://pitchfork.com/news/35091-kim-and-kelley-deal-talk-new-breeders-ep-self-sufficiency-and-the-pixies/
Pitchfork: You're playing another Pixies show this summer. Is that just a one-off?
Kim: We're doing dates in June. There's some things. I don't think they're completely confirmed; that's probably the only reason why they haven't been announced. There's one in the Scandinavia area and maybe one Greece. And then there's the Isle of Wight one. That's going to be so cool.
Pitchfork: But you're not going on another big reunion tour?
Kim: Not that I know of, no. We have somebody overseas who books us. If the booking agent gets enough offers, he goes to the band and says, "Guys, I can get you guys a few gigs if you're into it." So that's what's happened.
Pitchfork: So you're into it?
Kim: I really enjoyed playing the [Pixies reunion] shows. I thought that they were really fun. It's fun to play bass in a band. I've played guitar all my life except for the five years with the Pixies I played bass on stage. It's fun to play a different instrument on stage. It's nice not to have to sing. All I have to do is just build up a blister, this one blister on my ring finger. It's the "I Bleed" blister. That requires a certain specific blister on a certain part of my ring finger.
Pitchfork: And that's the only bad thing about it?
Kim: That's the only bad thing about it. I just have to build that blister up. But it's painful. The only way to build a callus up is to create a blister, to wound the skin. But I can do it. I'll steel myself and build a callus up on my ring finger. I can do it.
Pitchfork: Still no plans to record with the Pixies or anything?
Kim: Negative.
