ok so here it is...

back in the day the pixies used to spice up their setlists playing them in alphabetical order, as the tracklisting, etc. now theyre older and more mature, such tricks are too obvious and early 90s. so instead, this concept has been stretched out. the current setlists feature no more than a handful of bossanova and TLM tracks per show. come 2005, this will reverse with them only playing a handful of stuff off come on pilgrim, surferosa and doolittle (the crowd pleasers). in effect it means there are 2 reunion tours- 1 for the early stuff, one for the late.

a few bands have been known to do this (hefner is the only one i can think of offhand tho!)

I'm guessing they are doing what most people would do, trying to do the job, get along, and not to disappoint folks whilst playing the songs they know and enjoy.

At least in my country, press is saying nothing about them. You have to be in a subbacultcha to know about what are they playing. In my opinion, people will go to the shows if they only play some Latvian lullabies.

erm yeh, it's a new found version of an old track that is old...hehe. the new mono album should be out pretty darn soon in blighty. its not out til september in the states tho.

anyhoo, re. not playing TLM and bossanova. if they arent playing stuff off the last 2 albums for fear of reprisals from the press, then surely thatd come down to commercial fears. bad press may make for poor ticket sales. the tour may be about cashing in, but i hope they wouldnt be so under-the-thumb as to play crowd pleasers just to sell more stuff. saying that, if the tour really had a decent amount of credibility, surely they wouldnt be supporting the rhcp and the stereophonics. :/

I just want to see them play Motorway to Roswell on either Oct. 13th or 14th and I'll die happy.

That's possible. Maybe they think the earlier material will be better received because of stuff like that. On the other hand, when has Frank ever listened to the music critics? And didn't he once say Bossanova was his favorite album?

Of course, most of the Pixies songs that Frank played with the Catholics were from Doolittle or before.

Glad to see I'm not the only one to think this - I mean how many times can you tour 1 album?

Hmm...I'm about to rant (as usual).

I think the reason they aren't playing any of their later stuff is because of the press. Think about it.

Those of you who have the DVD or have seen the "Gouge Documentary"...They bash Bossanova and Trompe le Monde. Fuck Thom Yorke. Fuck music critics. Frank even says something along the lines of, "I don't regret writing the songs...but I do regret not re-writing them...hahaha..." I think they're afraid the media will shun them if they play their later work. Hell, Thom fucking Yorke goes on and on about how brilliant U-Mass is and that's one of the ONLY songs off of Trompe that they play. It's ridiculous. I say it's all the press. Fuck them.

Dream show: Martinis, Breeders, Catholics, Pixies, with David's magic show between acts. (Did someone say this already?)

So... Relearn it!!!

I've read somewhere that Frank fave albums were Trompe and Bossanova.

People who read that OTHER board can skip.

It's been suggested that they don't play much from the later releases because it reminds them of less happy times. Here is an alternate theory. The following are paraphrases, but close enough.

Joey to guy who held up signs for his favorite songs: "So you're the guy who keeps asking us for songs we don't fucking remember!"

Kim: "Rehearsing was a little awkward at first, but then it became very comfortable. It all came back kind of like muscle memory."

So the earlier songs were burned into their memories through repetition. The later songs weren't played as many times all those years ago, so they don't remember them.

Ahem two of them are solo,

Darren and John perform under the name of the french, ant as ever performs under the name of Ant and Jack Hayter also performs solo, although Jack tends to concentrate his work at small poetry gigs and the like, he released an album last year I think.

I think this tour is the 'Greatest Hits'-Tour a.k.a. Give the people what they want...
The next tour will be a tour for more hardcore fans and will have new songs in it and more bossanova and trompe le monde stuff.

just speculation

well yes, that is true, but the new live versions of von and hafssol are 2 of their best songs....
but yeah, () was played to death, but agaetis ain't the easiet record to play live though....

so any news on the new album - i haven't popped over to sigur-ros.co.uk for a while...

if sigur ros did it, itd be kinda dull. von is a boring album on the whole and theyve never played that much off it live (hafssol, von, hun jord, myrkur). more agaetis byrjun would be good but ( ) has been played to death since 2001. im more for the unreleased stuff myself, which theres rather a lot of.

That is a glorious and wonderful possibility - I do so hope your right.

Could someone suggest this to the Flaming Lips

Do hefner have that much back catalogue?
