Hi, on the old fansite Planet of Sound (http://aleceiffel.free.fr/) I remember there was a live audio version of Velouria played by Black Francis solo on his acoustic electric (telecaster?), in front of a crowd. It happened to be my favorite version and was hoping by chance someone still might have a backup copy of it?

Unfortunately the little information about the recording from the site doesn't really help:
http://dag.wiee.rs/alec/pos/info-live.html#velouria
"This too is Black Francis (a.k.a. Frank Black a.k.a. Charles
Thompson) singing solo. No origin given."

If it helps this was the location of the file:
http://dag.wiee.rs/alec/pos/sound/live/pixies-velouria-live.mp3

I don't know if the website owner still checks, but I wrote an email request to him too.

Any help would be appreciated.

As the Spanish Section translator of Alec Eiffel this thread brought many memories :-) Glad everybody got that great recording back for all to share.

You're the best, thanks! Wow, asking for Velouria turned out even better than I imagined.

Thanks brickisred! That's the one indeed, fantastic version. Love the way he plays the "forever green" bit

Good. It was I who originally provided mp3s to Dag for the media section of Alec Eiffel but I was really not sure this was the one. It is part of a short gig I have, apparently recorded in Belgium, but this is all I know.

Here is the tracklisting:
1 Cactus
2 The Holiday Song
3 Wave Of Mutilation
4 The Happening
5 Nimrod's Son
6 Tame
7 Velouria
8 Crackity Jones
9 Planet Of Sound
10 Mr Grieves

Awesome info. If it would not be too much to ask, would it be possible to share this audio, if it's still available?

Thanks for the information Benji! You are right, I have Tony's Theme in the same track as Cactus.

I found this gig on a cd I have.
Not as good quality as the mp3 you posted, but it's definitely the same show. must be from a few gens down the track perhaps, or your's has some processing done.
either way it's from Pukkelpop Festival, Belgium (1991-08-21)

and he played tony's theme after cactus too!

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian

If anyone finds it, I'd like to have it too, please.

Meanwhile, this one from 2009 is also very good: http://youtu.be/X24YbUt4CL8?t=1m3s

If it is the one I am thinking of, it was sort of thrown on the end of a bootleg of a different full band show - don't remember the name - from I think 1989. Solo acoustic performance?

I think i know the one, I used to have it on my (now dead) laptop. Think it was from that time in 1990 when he did some solo gigs. Loved that version too but have never been able to find it again.
The Champ Posted - 02/07/2014 : 12:08:44
Did he use an acoustic or electric guitar?
