So was just on Wikipedia reading about the Pixies (again), and saw this...

Sounds - Runner up Album of the Year - - Doolittle - 1989
Melody Maker - Runner up Album of the Year - Doolittle - 1989

Anyone know which album was 'album of the year' according to those mags?

Apologies for the lack of quoting skills. As for the spelling, that was a typo. Anyway, i'm sure everyone got the point.

Let's try this: mine came up fine earlier, and has since disintegrated (geddit?).

Even "South Park" knows that "Disintegration" is a monster album.

Disintegration wasn't very good except for Lullaby.

Making a statment like that should be illegal, but I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion. Unfortunatley.

[/quote]No, should definitely be illegal. I find Lullaby to be the least interesting moment on the album, and it's still a classic song.

Your quoting technique actually IS illegal.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

The Stone Roses self titled album was pretty good. Kind of hard to compare it to Doolittle, they are completely different musically.

Disintergration is a great great album. From start to finish. Great.

from my (admittedly shoddy) memory, there were two best album charts in melody maker each year - one voted by readers and one voted by critics - and doolittle won the readers poll (but not the critics poll) in 1989 ... conversely, I think surfer rosa won the critics poll but not the readers poll in 1988, but I seem to remember the write up being a bit begrudging about it (reference to it being most critics' 2nd choice)
