Posted - 08/06/2006 : 10:13:57 In the Pixies book Fool The World it says that In Heaven was once sung in German. I wanted to know what concert date that was. I'm assuming it's one of their German shows. I'm leaning towards the reformed Pixies era.
thanks |

I'm going to be playing that song at a solo gig in a while and am now learning it in German. Thanks. And dear me he sure can wail. I know we all already knew that but every so often something reminds you.

I have it on a tape, but I do not know from which concert it was. This is definitely from an early show, in 1988 or early 1989. It goes like (pardon my German): Im Himmel ist alles in Ordnung.
23 apr 1988 Batschapp, Frankfurt, Germany
Sure? I don't find it listed here: http://www.batschkapp.de/ (on the lower left side, right under "links", is a link called "30 Jahre Hörgenuss". Click on it and scroll down to the bottom of the page. There are links to the concerts that took place in the Batschkapp during the last 30 yaers.) But then again this list doesn't include a lot of concerts in april '88 and I think it's not ment to be complete. |

Man, that sounds strange. Black Francis strangely sounds like a Black Metal vocalist on this. :)

Posted - 08/09/2006 : 14:22:57 Brickisread, that is fucking briliant. Thanks a trillion. Anybody know the where and when of this performance? You can tell it's early, by BF's nervous young voice!

Posted - 08/09/2006 : 14:14:02 The other line is: "Du hast Dein gutes Ding und ich hab meins" which is a quite literal translation. Sounds a bit corny.
But it is indeed fun to hear Frank sing in german. Just like the Beatles and Elvis.

Posted - 08/09/2006 : 08:33:43 Well I don't speak German, I was just curious. Maybe kelladwella can tell us what the line should be?
"The arc of triumph" |

Posted - 08/09/2006 : 07:38:05 No, they also translated "You've got your good things and I've got mine", but I was not able to catch all the German words. Maybe it is just me, or the quality of the audience recording, or simply the fact that he struggled with the language. I will be glad to hear your opinion. |
pixiestu |
Posted - 08/09/2006 : 07:05:06 So is it just that one line or is the "You've got your good thing" bit in German too?

Posted - 08/08/2006 : 02:58:55 Me neither.
And brickisred, no nee to apologize. "Im Himmel ist alles in Ordnung" is just fine. I can't really see, how that fits with the melody, but that's just my poor imagination. |
