Posted - 03/02/2006 : 03:20:20 just watched this again after about 5 years and i was blown away - all over again. i really wish they'd release this officially. it deserves it.
a brilliant show encompassing their entire career, unlike anything they've released post-reunion, and it is fantastically shot, directed and edited. much better than the belfort dvd, thats for sure.
i remember buying a copy on NTSC VHS on the internet for US$20 back in the mid 90's as a teenager and being amazed that i receieved the 1988 town and country gig tacked on the end. i couldn't watch it for about a year cause i couldn't play it until i bought a better VCR (i lived in a PAL country), but once i did, i must have watched it 100 times in the first couple months - almost wore out the tape - and it was such a crappy transfer to begin with. have since tracked down a very very good transfer to dvd, and kinda forgot about it for a couple of years...shame on me.
tame has to be one of the most brutal performances ever recorded. the way charles screams down the microphone sends shivers down my spine, with him manhandling the microphone at the end, it's just phenomenal.... and the direction on tame just fits the song perfectly. all you see is charles screaming into the mic and the crowd going ballistic - brilliant. it focuses perfectly on where all the action is....
one thing about thats weird about the direction is that you hardly see a crowd shot until the encore, and then you see them lots. but i digress...
has this concert been uploaded to dime or anything???

Posted - 08/18/2006 : 14:48:51 wow, they played it at the chch film festival....thats fabulous... well, perth is 1200km away.... i'll just wait for the dvd release....

Posted - 08/18/2006 : 14:14:51 Managed to catch it at the Christchurch Film Festival. Has been round the country I think, and had some good reviews on radio over here. Was worth seeing! Surely Perth has a film festival? Now if we could just get a cinematic release of Brixton 91. |

Posted - 08/18/2006 : 06:01:58 can i ask how you've seen loudquietloud - that hasn'tbeen released on dvd yet has it, and i'd have not rthought it'd be in theatres in chch...not even the rialto.

Posted - 08/18/2006 : 03:19:14 Yeah I'm with you there... seeing them in the flesh was just too cool. I guess it's just the energy of the '91 performance. I've just seen loudquietloud - and the footage of the 2004 Brixton academy shows is great, but seeing the '91 performance, when they're in the same venue after years of touring/recording together. Shit, they just hang together so well. Having said all that, seeing The Man solo in Dublin in 2003 was *still* the best gig I've ever seen, hand's down. |

Posted - 08/18/2006 : 01:41:46 hey steve,
no worries, yeah babies kinda take priority over choccy fish...but it's a close one.......
i have to agree re: original vs reunion. it just kinda seems more real..... tho cerytainly ain't complaining about seeing 'em at all!! i'd certainly never expected to ever get to see 'em.

Posted - 08/18/2006 : 00:43:40 hey benji, finally got those chocolate fish for you, watch your mail box. sorry for the delay, we've just had our first baby, and it kind of took priority Am still loving the DVD. Seeing that performance and comparing it to the performances in 2004/5, I've gotta say I wish I'd been there in the 80s/90s. Alas, they never toured New Zealand....

Posted - 08/16/2006 : 02:04:05 hmm, thats an interesting thought... when i earlier said something about how he always missed out lyrics, i wasn't thinking about bone machine - but break my body, so ignore that comment. i haven't got any early 90's shows on hand at present to check whether he missed them out on any other show....
related: someone upped this to dimeadozen a few weeks ago: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=105200

Posted - 08/15/2006 : 21:22:49 I know that there have been a few comments here about the missing lyrics in "Bone Machine" and maybe this has already been suggested somewhere, but it occurred to me that perhaps Charles was uncomfortable singing the first verse in front of a Japanese TV audience (You're into Japanese fast food. . .). Just a thought. |

actually, that's my artwork...done years ago before i started doing much artwork. so what exactly is wrong with that artwork? if you don't like it, stop your bitching and make your own. and the phrase, beggers can't be choosers comes to mind.

Posted - 08/03/2006 : 15:28:11 Personally I don't mind what the cover looks like. It's the DVD that counts. That said, I'd still probably make one if I were good enough. If anyone does make one I'll happily use it.

Posted - 07/23/2006 : 22:13:18 yes indeed. when i saw the copy on zomb i wasn't going to seed this version, but i thought i'd download it anyways just to compare, and once i did and saw how much better the PAL copy was, i felt i had to upload it. sure, it was a pain, but i didn't want an inferior copy to be widely circulated when i had this version just sitting there...
but glad ya like it.... this show desrves to be officially released. i find that it just shits all over any of the reunion shows that have been taped, and thay play such an amazing setlist!

Posted - 07/23/2006 : 08:50:53 At first I wasn't sure if it was much of an improvement from the ZOMB one but after watching it all the way through yesterday and comparing it, it is clearly miles better. Thanks a lot.
I had forgotten how great the show actually was too. I am always amused by some of the faces that Charles pulls when he's singing!

Posted - 07/21/2006 : 12:57:43 Have you become a member over at purelivegigs.com? If you have, try using Bits on wheels (i used it to download this dvd. edit: no i didn't. it was another, but i still recommend). Here are the steps I take:
1. Go here: http://www.purelivegigs.com/forums/showthread.php?p=32250 2. Click the link: Pixies - Brixton Academy, London (1991-06-26) PAL Pro-Shot.torrent
a torrent file (like above) should appear on the desktop.
3. Double click the torrent file and a menu pops up asking where you want to save the visual/audio download. Once you've selected where, Bits on Wheels should automatically kick in and start to download.
Using Tomato, choose 'Open Torrent File' and select the Pixies torrent file you grabbed from PureLiveGigs. |

Posted - 07/21/2006 : 12:30:48 Ok so I just downloaded Tomato, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it to download the file. Every time I right click to save the link to 'Pixies - Brixton Academy, London (1991-06-26) PAL Pro-Shot.torrent' in the attached files section of the page at the bottom it just saves an HTML file to my desktop...I've tried opening that and dragging it into tomato but it doesn't seem to be working? I also plugged in the website of the thread hoping it would pick up on the file, but to no avail. Any suggestions (such as the right way to do things? ha) |

Posted - 07/21/2006 : 11:25:16 Take your pick. I usually use Bits on Wheels (visually pleasingish), but recently have been dabbling with Tomato (simple and sweet). Azureus is what some mac heads swear by.
Azureus = http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php Bits on wheels = www.bitsonwheels.com/intro.html or Tomato = http://sarwat.net/bittorrent/ |

Posted - 07/21/2006 : 11:00:45 So I'm a newbie to the whole torrent thing, but it seems that Utorrent only works for windows....I am currently using a mac (Tiger OSx 10.4.7). Is there a similar client that is compatible with a mac? I normally wouldn't bother (even though I am computer functional) except that the show sounds like it's a real gem! Any info would be appreciated. Thanks guys. |

Posted - 07/19/2006 : 08:17:30 Right, here is the artwork that was with the one posted on ZOMB but with the chapters changed to suit this one with the intro. Apart from that it's exactly the same. Brixton Artwork
I hope there are no spelling mistakes! |
