Dammit the direction of the filming of the french concert f--kin sucks!!!!! The switching of camera angles at 2 second intervals is so damn stupid and frustrating!! Geez, give us a little longer to make out what we're looking at.

STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!

The f--king director should have layed off the cocaine that night!

Goddamn! I know they can afford it but still! You at least want the pleasure of smashing it up yourself if it's gotta die..

Of course people were there! Otherwise, the concert would be cancelled!!

there was a broken gutair? cool.

being a director myself, I'm not going to blame this guy.
remember it was a FESTIVAL, and it was not videotaped for a DVD, but for TV!
It's a shitty MTV style cut up nonsense.
I'm sure he'd done a complete different style if it wasn't for TV and the big ass screen next to the stage.

I've also been approached by the editor of the other tracks to asks what songs to include etc... I begged him for the broken guitar in Vamos on one of the Paris gugs, but it seemed there was no footage of it :(

Still need to take a day off to really watch it...

Isn't it only selling out if you go against your principles? I've never heard anything about Frank particularly hating mouthwash.

I agree, if they had really 'sold out' we would be seeing frank advertising mouthwash etc.

i just watched my original copy (taken from the french tv broadcast) again and i think that the direction of vamos is actually pretty good.
sure, we don't see him from the front for the entire thing, but it seemed to be 90% focused on joey thru his bit.
i assume the original broadcast isn't different to the official release...but as i don't have the official release yet, i can't say, but i think the vamos direction is actually one of the better bits for the entire show

the band has sold out unfortunetly...thats why they are releasing this DVD...hopefully the new record...if they make one will kick ass...i still have utter most respect for the pixies and cant wait to see them live for a third time...
johnnyribcage Posted - 10/10/2005 : 19:11:32
Hey billgoodman, I haven't checked into it or anything, but I noticed the similarity to the Smile DVD, too... I can't explain the deal with the constant camera angle change. If you ask me, I'd rather see a dead on shot of the stage, wings in, of the band with no angle change at all. However, as it is with Smile, I can't really complain, I've been waiting for this so long they could have released a product half this good and I'd have been pleased. Come to think of it, same deal with Smile... Ever notice a common thread with Van Dyke Parks Smile lyrics and a lot of catholics+honeycomb FB lyrics?

but what do you expect - it was recorded for TV. the director probaly had never heard of the pixies, but was just another day at the "office"
sure, the camera work is annoying, but not much you can do about it.

I appreciate it...watched it twice so far....but there are things I wanted to see, but couldnt see because of the way it was filmed, and that sucks.

More often than not there are things that suck despite being good overall...for example, have you ever been to a show and the guy who works the lighting thinks he's the artist who has a performance to do? It can be very distracting to the point where you cannot fully enjoy something that you paid good money to watch.

Yes? Well the person who directed the taping of the DVD was one of those guys.

...and had the Pixies been more involved in its release, it would have likely taken longer to be released, if at all. This problem with the film is just that obvious!! (that being said, i'm still glad it was released)

...had the director been more familiar with the Pixies, I wouldnt be throwing my hands up in the air during Joey's solo in Vamos.

...its a good DVD, but there are things that suck about it.

I just find it stupid that some people must bash every single thing released. There's always some fucker that needs to put a negative twist on a positive release. Sometimes everything isn't good enough for those types. I'll lighten up when people stop being stupid and it looks like that will be a never.

Why don't you lighten up?

It's not as if people are knocking the band themselves. Indeed, we're loving the bonus songs and all that.
Fartbone Posted - 10/10/2005 : 07:03:57
Lighten up fools. Be happy there's a dvd out for purchase. Obviously the band signed off on it so what are you bitching about, camera angles?!

Throw it away then and wait until something sutible comes your way.

I could't agree more. The Eurockéennes show is absolutely unwatchable. (Death to Fabien Raymond!)
Luckily, the 15 extra songs are all great and nicely filmed.
pixiestu Posted - 10/07/2005 : 09:04:08
Why have Debaser, No.13 Baby, Caribou and Nimrod's Son been cut from the main show? They were on the one which was broadcast and from what I remember they were good performances. And can someone tell me if the intro to Cactus was longer on the broadcast.

I haven't watched... i am saving it for tomorrow or sat when I can pop popcorn and look at it with my undevided attention... my first front row seat for the PIXIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't get the dvd yet.....the French concert is the same cameras than the one broadcast via satellite tv?
Ziggy Posted - 10/06/2005 : 05:12:47
It's annoying as hell.

I prefer the look of some of the other shows that we're offered a glimpse of, LOL.
billgoodman Posted - 10/06/2005 : 00:54:39
haha, that's a pity. But I have to say it's some kind of trend in directing,
did you see Brian Wilson Presents Smile on DVD by any chance? There are 15 people playing
and I think they wanted to show everybody on every line of the lyrics.
