Jim (El Barto), our Song DB Master, is looking for assistant editors to help fill the song database with trivia and information for the various songs. You can help just by visiting and mailing additions to Jim, or by signing on to be a Song DB Guru yourself and take charge of a particular album or albums.

We'd like the database to be the definitive place to go to find out all sorts of things you might never have known about songs and albums. Like, for example, that Speedy Marie contains an acrostic. Or Blast Off contains a count down. Or...

You don't have to know everything, just be willing to hunt, acquire info, and post it to Jim.

If you're interested, please sign up here.

Finally, we will be modifying the DB soon to include an easy link to submit content to Jim on each song, so it'll be even easier to send suggestions and content to him.

Thanks!

Yeah, i was showing it to my little sis, and these are the corrections vs. what we heard on the album.

Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 09/22/2006 : 07:31:36
Yeah, I will add a place for them to put their name eventually, it's a question of aesthetics and also tieing into the FB.Net DB.

More than happy for help. I have busy bursting out my ears, just started this course and with a two hour journey each way and a list of homework as long as my arm at the moment I haven't had the time/energy for anything else. It's only my first week so I'm sure I'll get used to it soon.

The only thing I'd say is when you submit via the comments please please please put your forum handle on the comment so I know it's you and if you don't mind, your email so I can double check if needs be. This is the problem I've had so far with the comments, being unable to check what people are sending me.

During the week there's going to be no chance of me changing anything but seeing as my weekends are going to be solid study from now on I can take little breaks to do some editing. It'll save me going mental.

Thanks ever so much for your offer of help. Just a note though: the lyrics from honeycomb that are in the db have been taken from the Japanese booklet which is what I think we decided we would stick with. So is this what you hear? Also, I didn't quite understand about Mr Grieves not being in there... did you mean the lyrics rather than the song? I have a few threads dotted about the place for pixies lyrics, this could have been one of the iffy ones.
Billy Radcliffe Posted - 09/21/2006 : 17:56:28
yeah, i will recopy that and put it in comments by it's song... you wrote your msg as I wrote mine...

Georgie Porgie used to get real high
He used to kiss the world till it made him cry
He was under the bottle's command
But one last winter he got it together and
Happiness came with the warmer weather laying across all the land

He had a love she also liked to drink
She got it together
But you know what I think?
I think she was still feeling glum

She took got a gun and she shot him in the head
She shot herself and so soon they were wed as the air conditioner hummed

Sing for joy
Sing for laughs
Sing for joy
Sing for joy
If nothing else
Sing for joy

Mamma killed a pumpkin
She thought it was a sweet
She put it on the table
But it was still meat
She forgot the sugar again

Daddy came home, she had tears in her eyes
He said "Gimme grilled cheese
And paperbag French fries"
See, he He'd forgot the sugar again

We had a wander seven years out West
It wasn't exactly the wilderness
But I felt like an Israelite

Mamma is a gypsy, she'll never find her town
Daddy went to sea but the boat went down
And the flames shot into the night

Sing for joy
Sing for laughs
Sing for joy
Sing for joy
If nothing else
Sing for joy

I know a girl who lives on the hill
I don't know if her sister will
or But I was thinking about her best friend

Oh listen to me
I'm a desperate boy
I think I better have a sing for joy
And I guess think this has just got to end

I'll get away in my get away car
Every now and then I'll send my regards
from a payphone down in the flats

I'm sorry for the love
I'm sorry for the pain
I'll say I'm sorry baby again and again
I'm sorry we're joining the stats

Sing for joy
Sing for laughs
Sing for joy
Sing for joy
If nothing else
Sing for joy

I struck out all the mistakes, corrections are in bold... BUT...See I could do all this but I think this will cause more trouble than help out.

Yeah, submit in the comments section below, it's easiest since it gives us a link to edit the song in the email. She is quite busy and yeah, I know there are whole sections missing and so on, so there's lots to do in there, you should have fun. There are plenty of places where the lyrics are known (i.e. where they're in the liner notes) and there are typos, there are questions like, when the lyrics in the notes don't match what FB sings, which version do we put in, and there are obvious uncertainties about lyrics with no notes. For these, rather than just sending your opinion, it would help if you were to start a thread so we at least have a consensus.

Thanks for your help, I do look forward to having the discopedia burgeoning with info.

Billy Radcliffe Posted - 09/21/2006 : 17:44:27
Well, I was trying to show my 13 yr old sister sing for joy's lyrics as we listened to the song, and I/we counted 7 different mistakes. so I did a database search on DOOLITTLE and got zero results, which means, yes, Mr. Grieves is not even in there, I think my chosen profession might be lyric proofer. I am willing to listen with a fine toothed comb and enter and reenter till we get it right. I guess this is where I would put myself if I had a choice about it.

As far as getting the corrections to you, I need to know how and where... do I submit them in the comments section below the lyrics? here in this thread? do you have a password based thing that lets me straight out edit those pages? Will I get special FB clearance? Will Starmekitten even let me help her out here? (I Hear she's a busy busy gal lately)

I am still also willing to go out and buy doolittle or fool the world which I need to do anyway, don't know how long til I can do that, but when and as i do yeah, i could put all the quotes in.

I guess my OCD is acting up....

I was just looking around in the song DB and, in LEVITATE ME, the lyrics show 'please RUN over me' but for some reason I think it should be 'please FAWN over me.' Could someone check on that?
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 09/19/2006 : 07:25:43
Well, whatever, Doolittle. Find quotes from articles, research songs, whatever. If there's something else you'd rather tackle, that's cool. Check out the site and look for deficient parts you'd be interested in helping with.

I thought we had given over the FAQ to someone but I haven't heard hide nor hair since.

Hmmm. Maybe a good time to go out and buy fool the world huh?

Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 09/18/2006 : 12:10:48
Well, that's great! We're always looking for help. I guess let me know if there's anything specific you're interested in. Otherwise, if you want a short assignment for now, you can go through either Fool the World or Doolittle and add comments/quotes to the db. This is open to anyone interested, of course, though if there are others out there who'd be interested in helping, let us know so that we can divide and conquer without duplicating work.

Make sure you cite your reference material properly so it can easily be double-checked/approved. For example:

"The first [demo tape] that was passed around probably had 'I'm Amazed,' 'Brick is Red.' That's probably it, maybe one, two other ones."

I would like to find a way to participate more in the fb.net kingdom. I am doing already what I can, Collecting shows, buying the commercial albums, I even had plans to record the oct 30 show in cleveland which house of blues promptly put the squash on. Perhaps someone could give me an assignment of sorts. I am willing to help out. Also... If I can still get ahold of them someone has promised me backstage to frank black, If there is anything you want me to ask him in the name of fbnet... I am willing... Please let me know what I could possibly do to help out a little more than just the average fan, because I am a little more than just the average fan

oops, that's me right...

Sorry the pixies albums are taking longer than expected, getting the cat/release details is proving the biggest bind. I'll have a push over the next couple of days. Most of the songs are in there (just B sides to go). I'll do some now.

Thanks! It's almost ready to go, but I'm waiting for a couple things yet.

One is a bio for our db admin so I can link to her.
The other is the completion of the Pixies albums.

Not sure on Thalassocracy on the Black Sessions, will try to look tonight.

Song DB v.3 is excellent. Look forward to it being linked off the main page.

Is there a reason there are no listings of Thalassocracy on The Black Sessions? Is that only on an "unofficial" copy or something?

Yeah, that's already in the plans, will be gone as soon as we make the move to our new version (which I've ironed most of the kinks out of but am still not quite ready to release yet... I still have to get a song browsing mode implemented and while I dislike the way it is set up now, I haven't really come up with anything better so I'm kinda' stumped.

I'm thinking the left side will remain navigation and the right side will list the songs. But do I list by album, alphabetically, do I put album art in there, doesn't sorting by album defeat the purpose of having a song browse mode, etc etc...

Tobafett, unfortunately the DB was never designed to separate it that way so... not any way I've come up with yet.

hey...I'm happy happy that the pixies albums are being added to the song db!

is there anyway you could separate the diff. folks he's recorded with?

e.g.:

pixies
blah
blah
blah
frank black
blah
blah
blah
blah
fb + Cs

know what i mean? just an idea...
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 02/26/2006 : 08:49:25
Nope, not at all. :)

I've edited out the ones you've changed fromt the list, you don't mind me listing it like that do you?

Great, I'm on it, thanks. And yeah, I'll get those Nadine ones up.

starmekitten Posted - 02/26/2006 : 08:24:55
I've kind of done a list of the ones that are in the release but not on the thumbnail in your class project thread there, oops. Trying to be helpful!

Nope, I was more than fine with the SMYT press release (I did add it a good six or so times) I wonder what is going on with it?
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 02/26/2006 : 08:06:47
Hey Tre, it's the notes for SMYT again. I'm not sure if it's a db thing or if Jim doesn't like it, because it saved for a while, but it's gone now. But something's going on there. I'm presuming you were okay with having the press release on the page and didn't remove it?

Yeah, the way that it's grabbing images is to look at the release and not the album (if that makes sense to you), so there will probably be a few that don't show up on the thumbnails that do show up on the release details page. I'll go through and add the link in there too...

starmekitten Posted - 02/26/2006 : 07:53:08
also, I remember the images for the nadine single being posted in the db thread but the image from cooking vinyl looks to be down and the other one looks... a little rough. I don't have scanner access sadly or I'd do it.
starmekitten Posted - 02/26/2006 : 07:40:01
Still disappearing? what has gone this time?

It's looking good though, still checking it out but first impressions are great, way way *way* better than before.

fyi--I didn't see the Peel Sessions cover on the directory page but it's there when you click on it...

Dave: There is still a seeming problem with disappearing notes.

Everyone: I've been working on version 2 of the database. Bearing in mind that this is BETA right now, i.e. still a work in progress, please take a look, let me know what you think, and by all means try to find problems (then let me know).

http://www.frankblack.net/songs/db3beta.asp

Notes:
Not sure I like that search there, but not decided where to put it yet. I'm trying below the menu but without much success so far. Thoughts?

Also, as it becomes quite obvious when viewing this way, we are still missing a lot of images for promos and singles/eps so please if you have one in your collection, scan it, get a friend to, send it to me, whatever, but lets get the image catalogue full.

Tre will be the new "Send your comments" to person once we get her set up next month.

Now I've spent my ten hours on this this Saturday, I'm done. I'll get to adding some more lyrics next week.

I started with the honeycomb threads anyway before all the information in all the articles posted started to slip into obscurity (or page 4 of frank black making noise heh) the lyrics have been posted from moro directly out of the japanese cd booklet, all but honeycomb which I posted out of the uk booklet.

So, at least they're done for whenever the album gets added.
