I just saw it on Soulseek. Didn't get it or anything, but was curious as to whether or not anyone else has already ran across it? Was surprised to see it so soon considering the last thing I heard, it wasn't even hitting the streets until early next year.

Because it sounds a little different from the sessions and we know that there are promo's floating around so I'm pretty sure it is.

Yes, we love it when you pop in like this. Yes, you should
keep doing it.

Thanks for the great news and for keeping us updated!

Yes it's finished, yes the version on Ebay is identical to the one you'll be able to buy in July, but the OTHER Nashville record is not completed yet. That's all the questions I am permitted to answer at this time.

And yes, there will also be a new ELLIS HOOKS cd entitled GODSON OF SOUL out in July so when you go to the CD store you better bring plenty of dosh so you can buy both!

bye,

the leaked version apart the joy of listening the latest album (even if unfinished) months before official release does have some collectionist value, for me at least (i like alternative versions)since it will never hit the market . downloading the final one doesn't make any sense.

The one off ebay has a revised tracklist and official artwork.
We've had no word from JT, that I know of, if the record is finished. Considering the cover art, there's a good chance this is a leaked version of the finished article though. Only the phantom ebayer and ones in the know will know the truth.

Not sure whether I should bump this or not but it seems the final version has been leaked too.

Sonic Youth is one of my favorite bands, but ten of the albums I have from are burned. I feel kind of shitty about it, and it sucks missing out on all of the cool artwork. The way I see it is that I'm going to be a rich filmmaker in a few years, and I'll buy all the albums I could ever want. When it comes to FB though, I would never accept a mere copy or bootleg or whatever.

"Hey, Man, I got the new FB on my computer. You want it?"
"No thanks, bro. I'm going to buy that action on July 19."
"Do even want to listen to it?"
"That's tempting, Ralph, but I'd better not. July 19 will be a sweet day in the life of misterwoe. I don't want to take away from it in any way."
"That's cool, man. You want a beer?"
"Sure. Thanks."

Pablo Picasso never got called an asshole.
VoVat Posted - 04/09/2005 : 16:54:28
What DO you buy, then?

"Reunion? Shit union!"
50 Pence Posted - 04/09/2005 : 15:06:03
Well i may not buy it, but i think FB is kinda cool so i might, don't really buy albums much anyway. or singles

For fuck's sake, let's put this to bed once and for all. Is there any one of you out there that that does not intend to buy an officially released copy of this album when it finally comes out?
No? I thought not. Now let that be an end to it.

Well said, but please let's confine this debate to one place instead of all over. The whole "To download/not to download" debate is also raging here:

Jontiven Posted - 04/09/2005 : 05:03:42
For the record, I never sanctioned the downloading of HONEYCOMB. The version up on the web is not final mixes, it is not mastered, and it is not sequenced. It contains some songs which are unfinished, and is by no means what the artist and I would choose to call the definitive record.

If you do listen to it or download it, there is an inferred agreement that you will buy a copy the day it is released. This material was uploaded to the web by a record company affilliated person, and as far as we can tell it's a record company that was not involved in the signing of Frank Black. So this is corporate mischief of the worst kind. And of course the financial benefits that the artist and myself will NOT see because people are taking this unofficial record for free will cut into our ability to fund future recordings.

So you can love me or not, but I'm no fan of what happenned here. I'm glad the work is being appreciated, but it is a pre-release version that does somewhat undercut the presentation which will be made officially on July 19.

Just my 3c.

best,
Jon Tiven

who cares?

I asked my firends if I could burn some of their music and they got really upset with me. But most of the stuff i was gonna burn is stuff i am not gonna go out and buy without ever hearing. so basically i will just never hear them. If they'd let me burn maybe i will like it and buy the next album. or a shirt. or go to a show. i'll spend money on em eventually.

if you want music based on supply and demand fine. listen to music that was marketed for 18-46 year old white males or whatever your demographic is. Our whole world is dictated by what will sell.

You think your favorite musician is gonna stop playing his guitar because no one is paying him for the recording?

Its so obvious I don't even know what to say. I downloaded honey FOR FREE and I garauntee that more of my money will go into franks pocket eventually (and a certain percentage into jon tiven's pocket as well i guess) .

By the way, is jon tiven a nice guy or what? Someone at the record comapny has to be upset that he has "ok'ed the downloading of hte album" but he understands whats up. cheers jon. if i had the power to knight you i would.

By the way, great album. Gone past country into loungy. Not my favorite but very very good.

shame, shame shame!!!!
i know you're all gonna buy it, but just wait - if you just wait it makes everything sweeter! your not special cuz you have it and i don't - i'm special becuz i won't.
i'll download any bootleg from anyone i'm interested in at any time, but taking commercial releases on a shit peer to peer network is lame!
yes lame! isn't there enuf new shit coming right now to hold you over? new beck, new yo la tengo best of pre-order deluxe 3 disc from matador, new cafe tacuba (just kidding and waiting)!
i've got so much shit to listen to, if i pay attention to it, the new stuff will just happen. i always want the new, especially frank, but sometimes forget the recent old (dexter romweber "blues that defy my soul", tom waits "blood money", sonic youth "sonic nurse", talking heads "the name of this band is the talking heads" reissue, & every neil young bootleg i've torrented in the last few months)
hold on - you'll get it, you might not like it, i know i will!

I've been really digging Lone Child, Sad Mans Song and I Burn Today. But the entire "album" is spectacular.

How can a song contain a lyric this bad and yet be so darn good?

There are a lot of songs I love and a couple of songs I don't love on the record.

But. Since I usually warm up to all Frank's songs eventually, I don't want to say anything negative. Even when there's a song I'm not so crazy about at first, sometimes, down the road, that can change.

Rita,
I do enjoy it. I think it will take a while to really pick out the great songs. They are very long and I still have a Pixies short attention span. Haven't got Spokane yet, but it is on the way. It was mailed a day or two after your package was, so it should be here soon.

I actually think My Life Is In Storage (shall we already refer to it as MLIIS?) is the song that sounds closest from his previous work. It's an epic just like Massif Centrale or Parry The Wind, only toned down.

I just got a copy yesterday. I have listened to it twice, so nothing is sticking out quite yet. What a big constrast this album is, from everything. He can go from River Euphrates to My Life Is In Storage. This version of SSMVGD is quite good, all slowed down and twanged out a bit.
