found this in storage the other day. an ex-girlfriend from long ago gave it to me (god bless her). i guess it was part of some kind of collectible cards they released for each pixie. she had it framed for me. i'm at a point now in my life where i can look at it and enjoy it without being reminded of old relationship baggage. anyone ever seen these?

i got other shit in my back pocket for this thread but wanted to see what you guys have to share

i found it on a different 2cd edition of teenager of the year. the bonus cd is a 5" cd (and not a mini 3" like in that picture earlier in this thread). it's a uk release, released by rough trade. the bonus cd only contains three tracks, headache (nyc version), and two headache single b-sides. (whereas i believe the 3" cd contains all headache b-sides, from both headache singles.)

i'll try to share the nyc version soon. any file format preference? mp3? flac? something else?

Y'know, upon listening again I don't know that he is necessarily losing his voice, just affecting his voice in moments that make it seem possible that he may be about to lose his voice. How's that for a disclaimer. In any case, it is a full band version, to my understanding done during the TOTY sessions as it sounds simply like an alternate vocal take over the same track, and can be found on the bonus disc included in the double disc TOTY cd.

Here's more info on that particular version..

Headache (N.Y.C. Version)
Backing Vocals – Eric Drew Feldman, Nick Vincent
Backing Vocals [Additional] – Lyn Bertles, Sally Tiven
Engineer [Assistant] – Joe Johnson Engineer,
Mixed By – Jimmy Douglass
Lead Guitar – Lyle Workman
Producer, Mixed By – John Tiven*

and the original, or TOTY version:

Headache
Engineer – Bill Cooper, Efren Herrera
Engineer [Assistant] – Frank Gryner, John Jackson (2), Matt Westfield
Engineer,
Mixed By – David Bianco
Producer – Frank Black
Producer, Keyboards – Eric Drew Feldman

1.INTRO [spoken word] + PROFESSOR'S THEME a rambling synth based instrumental [by EDF?]
2.FEAR instrumental theme from the TV show One Step Beyond
3.WAR instrumental, a cover of the Ventures song War Of The Satellites
4.TOSSED instrumental [not listed]

Oh... that bootleg... In my opinion the best of this era in terms of sound quality. It was my third Frank Black record, I bought it before I knew the eponymous one. I started to play it at a friend's place. The story teller on track one sounded so strange to me and then the instrumental tracks, I started to think that it might be all insrumental or some kind of fake FB record, then I played Freedom Rock and god dammit it was still instrumental... I considered the possibility to return to the record shop and claim my money back (I was 14 and did not know a lot about anything), then came te thrilling moment when he introduces musicians (it was the first tme I heard of Pere Ubu). Later it became my favorite Frank Black live performance. When I think back on this, I can't help wondering why was there was a need (artistically) to play with Pixies again when he did what he did on "Frank Black" & "Teenager of the Year"...
But it's not that a big deal.

FBF signed a concert poster for a friend of mine, and above FBF's name, he wrote in big letters,

"I INVENTED ALTERNATIVE ROCK!!!"

I know!! My own personal Black Francis original. I near wept upon removing the record from its robust outer cardboard packaging sleeve.

I love it because i have been close to an autograph previously on a couple of occasions, but either it wasn't appropriate timing to ask or its was too much of a scrum. The fact that its also the Golem is very cool. That record is quite unique i think in FBFs array. Seems to have gone under the radar for a lot of people but its a fantastic piece. The sound on vinyl is really something to behold.

I've got one of Scott Boutier's drum sticks with "FB & the C's" printed on it, it's all chewed up from use. I'll have to get a picture up.
