I was driving and listening to "Gouge Away" and appreciating how bad ass it is. I wish I knew the song in high school so I could have vented all my teenage angst on it.

What are Frank's most bad ass song? Teeth grinding, fist through the wall, scary, etc. Many Pixies songs fall under this category so maybe solo Frank answers would be more interesting...Frank brightened up a lot when he went solo, but surely he retained some bad assness.

P.S. hi again, I used to be on this board, then I was gone, and I'm here again.

Noooo way, he LAUGHS when he screams in this song. That's like polar opposite of badass. When he screams in say, Pixies songs, it scares the shit out of you and sends chills down your spine. This one it's just a big goofy joke.

I do agree that the live versions I've heard have been more sinister and scary.
ramona Posted - 05/26/2007 : 09:41:14
I think some of the live versions are more badass than the studio one. Especially that lovely drunken version. "Sisss, sissy, siss!"

I know what you mean, Jordy. But it's still a pretty badass song. The way he screams in it is pretty badass, if you ask me. :)
Jordy Posted - 05/25/2007 : 23:34:36
I feel like 666 is too goofy and light hearted. It just sounds like Frank is having a fun time with his band. Doesn't make me angry. Makes me feel pretty comfortable.

666, I Want Rock and Roll, Solid Gold

Suffering

Steak N' Sabre

I love this part... Yeah, we did it!

Tame, Dead, Threshold Apprehension, Freedom Rock, and Cactus. I am sure I will think of more. And if i repeated your answer, then it just proves it is a BAD ASS song.

Just before the release of Trompe Charles was fucking with the journalists saying it was gonna be a metal album. Then when Planet of Sound was released as a single it went straight to number one on the metal chart. The power of suggestion.

Seriously...I wish I was a Pixies fan in junior high and high school. All I liked was nerdy stuff (i still do), and I think liking Pixies and Frank would have given me more confidence.

Bullet (anyone mention it? dont remember) also counts.

Man of Steel is badass.

So is Solid Gold, I Want Rock N Roll, Suffering, Massif Central, Czar, So Hard Make Things Out, Cult of Ray - all super-badass. Some of my favorite frank flavors are of the badass variety.

Some favorie pixies badass moments - Letter to Memphis, Tame

It has to be Sad Punk. Love that song. Been blasting TLM on the car stereo the last week. Still sounds fresh to me.

...Almost?? Not quite though. Calistan doesn't exactly fill me with rage. It's got kind of a nice breezy feel to it...
