Amazingly, this insanely catchy song is still awesome after a million listens. "Are you / feeling / appre... hension!". That has to be my favorite part. Frank has always done songs in which you keep discovering great things, even though you thought you knew them by heart, and he does it again in a song which desn't even have a lead guitar... It blows my mind.

This song sounds as if Frank had vocal help from the Beastie Boys. Sounds great though.

I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything

Meh.

also, just wanna point out this annoying, useless bit of information... at about 0:45 when frank starts signing "threshold" a number of times in this high pitched, screaming voice, he sounds just like Karen O singning "tick tick tick tick" at 1:35 (approx.)of that yeah yeah yeahs song "tick"

but anyway, last time I pointed out something like that, people went "meh.."

Talk to a man just to get a little work
Then you talk to the hand just to get a little jerk
Some people die, then they start to get old
But I don’t wanna die upon on the threshold
I got threshold apprehension

I was recently told that 'work' is slang for speed.

No not you silly.
No luck yet but here's an extensive discography

Anyone else? I wanna see it.

Threshold Apprehension. Some say this some say that. I don't think it's silly. Sounds like he's nailed a jumper's emotional state with some zing. From screaming that distracted 'What!' cos the world has suddenly encroached again, through the hundred year wait to the unceremonious drum roll splat ending. And all with the respect that any of us would deserve, not just Brood. Would that any of us end up with a eulogy half as loving as Bluefinger.

How many times did you listen to this before passing judgement?
I personally found it really beautiful, and as Frank himself stated and I quote
" if you listen to my songs ONCE, your just not gonna get it"

( as to the comment on it sounding like a cheap pixies imitation)
much like the water flowing in a river , you will not step into the same water twice , so why even try ?
does not good wine progress with age ?
and would every glass have to stand up to the last or may the bouquet be uniquley it's own?

Well, I just saw the tribute video for "Threshold Apprehension".

I really don't like this song at all. It sounds like a fake Pixies song. Forced screaming and off-key singing over a slow "classic rock" riff? This is not the return of Black Francis. The "threshold threshold threshold threshold" bits mark one of the few times I've found Mr. Thompson's vocals to be overtly annoying and unpleasant; he's embracing the antithesis of those smooth vocals he reached on that awesome Frank Black Francis Disc 2 version of "Where is My Mind". Does anyone like disc 2 of Frank Black Francis? Hello?

Ah well. At least Frank seems to be having a good time. I'm not criticizing those who enjoy the music; I'm just surprised that the song seems to be unanimously loved and that hitherto, nobody has said anything negative about it.

I'm certain at that bit that there's a 'sss' rather than a 'shhhh'. Listen to when he definitely sings 'apprehension', it's different.

i heard "sive" today, Llama. Maybe because for the first time ever i wasn't singing along.

Just F.Y.I in case nobody has posted these yet.

Here is a video somebody made for this song. Other songs from BF are linked there. Lovely songs, but I wish he wasn't changing the name again

I thought he was saying "have drink, press button, seventh floor", which fits in with waiting for the elevator door.

Yes, in '93 the owner of University Records in Lubbock, TX got a cd of just Los Angeles before Frank Black's 1st solo record "Frank Black" came out. It was only a few days but I probably listened to it 100 times over the next few days. I have bought everything he's ever offered. I probably have bouth TOTY 5 times for disaster recovery purposes. I'm not a bum but I appreciate it. I am unfortunately not as technical as the 20 somethings that dominate these pages. I spent 4 hours last night looking through these pages for it and didn't find it. I signed up for Sendit.com and got some old live recordings but not anything on Bluefinger.

I'm confused... you have a CD of just Los Angeles. You mean the same song repeated over and over?

Soulseek answers your question in terms of getting your hands on Bluefinger.

I was listening to Frank Black Francis album the other day... this is an album that will take me years to get into... you have to really force yourself through the album because it is so bizarre in my opinion. Was this album well recieved by most Fb fans?

Back to Threshold. I absolutely love this song.. I love the way Frank sings it and wish he would sing more like this in the future.

Read through the bluefinger thread then email someone. Lazy bum.

Don't take that too personally. I've initiated a new policy of calling everyone who posts like this a lazy bum.

Idiot.

Couldn't disagree with you more about Threshold Apprehension but if we all had the same opinions this would be a dull place. As for FBF Disc 2 I think it's just an interesting diversion, nothing more.

Godspeed

"for the threshold apprehension". And it's hath all the way through. I like the word hath as well. That is all.

Idiot.

What makes this song for me are the high vocal notes Frank throws in at odd times. Like "and wait a hundred years for the elevator door...". So punk rock-sounding. Love it.

And the "ooo-wee-ooo" backing vocals are another great detail.

I hope I get to see these songs played live. I'm confident they will slay.
