i'm just curious for a little more info. about the iTunes release "One More Road for the Jit"......First of all I love it. I believe its FB & the Catholics outtakes from "Show Me Your Tears"........Right?? Does anyone know why these songs were cut from the album. I mean why would 'Show me Your Tears' be cut from "Show me Your Tears" ??
There's this song on it called 'Preacher's Daughter', I have no idea why this was cut either.....Once I found it I couldn't get it out of my head. in particular I couldn't get the chorus out me head.....
"You can't ever change your mind, You can't save the preacher's daughter.....Lord knows I've been tryin' every day"
I mean this song is a strong piece, there's so many incredible pieces on this album...'Living on Soul', 'La Cigare Volant', 'Pan American Highway'.....really this whole album is the shite, why wasn't it a normal release......just curious

Downloaded OMRFTH and Snake Oil at the same time. Haven't listened to Snake Oil at all yet...What with FMRM and OMRFTH, so much new Frank (at least OMRFTH was new to me), so I'm saving Snake Oil for a "dry period"...if there ever is one!

Anyway, One More Road For the Hit...yes. Tremendous. Absolutely. Humboldt Cty Massacre? Living on Soul? Pray for the Girls? Le Cigare Volant?

Pan American Highway?!!

These are great songs. Pan American Highway has such a unique feel to it

The quality of the disc (download?...) shows that my only choice is to go completist and rustle me up a copy of oddballs somewhere.

ummm........yes! I was going to include that in this thread (the album or release or whatever its called) but I figured I'd leave that for a future discussion (snake oil)......
O.K. I guess I can't wait, what do you all think of the songs 'Take What You Want', 'Sleep', and that cover of Springsteen's 'I'm Goin' down', 'Changing of the guard', and the whole Fu$%ing thing for that matter..........B-Sides, Outtakes????....my , God

some of these songs, moksha, are the best b-sides in my enitire music collection. Living on Soul, or 'reverse it' as you say () is just plain "wow!".

and Snake Oil (song). Oh boy, where do I begin? Ah, better not.

That's funny. I thought the 4-track iTunes release(DCYW,ADDY,PD,SMYT) were all unreleased tracks from the Pixies Purple Tape. I may be wrong, and this may be an assumption...

There was some talk about a Catholics Boxset, it's a shame that didn't work out.
Frank said something about the lines of 'not having to buy the same thing twice, so the boxset would have been filled with b-sides and rarities (or just liner notes).

Yes!........he could even include a bobblehead doll....

I would love to buy a boxset full of things I haven't bought "twice"

I was under the impression that they were b-sides from that album/recording session, but I don't know if I ever heard that or it was an assumption.

"Now you're officially my woman. Kudos. I can't say I don't envy you."

Well.....I started this thread/post because I don't know that much/enough about 'One More Road For The Hit'.......but if you have this "4-track iTunes EP", would you really think that the song 'Show Me Your Tears' was "recorded and probably written" AFTER the album named "Show Me your Tears"........I mean its not completely impossible but its generally a song name that lends inspiration for an album name for FB rather than vice versa.....hear me?

My best guess is that after putting out two albums the previous year and with one of those albums being pretty lengthy, Frank maybe didn't want to put out another really long album and risk becoming known as "that guy who puts out really long albums all the time", so he kept Show Me Your Tears at a lean thirteen.

Frank tends to put some space between the unusually long releases (see Cult of Ray with its four-song UK bonus disc, suggesting that it might have been decided that a 17-song album wasn't a good idea at the time... I'm just GUESSING, though. I could be wrong.)

My second best guess is that maybe Frank wasn't as satisfied with those songs as he was with the thirteen that ended up on Tears.

When it was compiled, Frank had already put out a lot of albums in a pretty short time (four in the past three years). Most record labels don't want to put out 5 albums by the same artist within such a short timespan.

Also, the Catholics were broken up, the Pixies were getting back together, and Honeycomb was on the way to being made. These b-sides comps maybe got pushed to the side, what with all that Frank had going on.

I don't know the machinations of how they ended up on itunes, but without itunes, I bet we wouldn't be seeing these comps AT ALL (or at least the wait would've been much longer than it was). I bet these will never come out on CD. If anyone here is still holding out, I say just download them already. Those outside the US can now get them on emusic.com. I was one of those who didn't like that it was an itunes thing-only at first, but I ended up getting them before too long and now I couldn't care less whether these come out on CD or not (because I already have them!).

Preacher's Daughter should have been on SMYT. Still think it's one his strongest record, but with P's D it's a missed chance

It is a B-sides compilation - it is all the original songs (ie. non-covers) that the Catholics released on singles in their existance. The hope is that it will be released on CD eventually. To help us compile all sorts of info on it, please check this out:
