What is the fantastic and fascinating story behind the cover of one of the least favorite Franck Black albums of all time?

In the latest reedition of the album (around 2002) why does one of the faces look in the direction of the main big face. Why have they added a full-point in the "o" of the of? Why is RAY written bigger? Why have they changed the color, removing the violet shades around the rays? Overall why is the cover much better than the original one?
Why do we care about such thing?

Who has the right to change the cover of an album and what is the official justification for that?

A cover, why?

Interesting, the different versions. Still, I think they both look crummy.

oh i seeeeee! its bugged me for years, i just never been here til recently. And what a lovely place it be.
Carl Posted - 09/12/2006 : 07:50:34
Yep, Frank coined the name Cult Of Ray for Bradbury's following! And I don't recall noticing the difference either, and yet I believe I have seen the redux cover before, and just didn't cop it for some reason. And hi danny!

danny ray Posted - 09/12/2006 : 07:42:29
am i the only one that hadn't noticed a difference?! Actually, while we're on the subject, who or what IS the cult of ray? Someone mentioned ray bradbury, is that right?

Oh, and hi, i'm new.

I have the bottom one, which I bought a couple of years ago.

"why does one of the faces look in the direction of the main big face?"

indeed, that's a scheming change...

i'm also just a bit confused. is the new one the top or bottom?
pixiestu Posted - 09/08/2006 : 14:07:33
Is the second the only one available now then? It's the one that I've got since I only got it last year, maybe even this year.

I think I like it better than the first since it's got the dodgy eye and that.

I've changed my mind, I do like the Star Trek font.

That's the rehash, though, isn't it?!

Aren't those faces supposed to be charicatures of Ray Bradbury?!

Or maybe Rick Rubin sold the computers to pay the bill.

I believe we had this discussion years ago
my idea is that the first and the second are different
because the rec. companies are different. The second is cleary less polished
so I think that's Jean's original artwork which was polished at cost of American Recordings.
So when the record was licensed to another record componay (spinart/cooking vinyl I believe) they didn't want to pay American Recordings for the polishing so they went with the original of Jean (which was done with PaintBrush or CorrelDraw or something)

What's strange is, I think I may have seen the second cover before, but I never registered with me-I actually wasn't aware there was a different version!

hammerhands Posted - 09/08/2006 : 01:56:04
Now it seems so obvious, but when I had to buy a new copy I couldn't quite put my finger on it, I didn't have the original anymore.

I like everything about the original better, the stars, the extra colours, the darker blue, the non-Star-Trek-font, but the eye is a nice touch.

sometimes the more colors you have, the less cost. but maybe it's just to separate the originals from the newer ones.
