Posted - 08/29/2006 : 21:03:36 I'm still crazy about In The Time of My Ruin and don't understand why it's not a big, big radio hit. Maybe someone ought to film some teenage girls dancing to it and throw it on youtube. |

Posted - 08/28/2006 : 07:24:58 I will eat some crow here and say that "It's just not your moment" has moved from the "excruciating" (I believed I called it in another thread) to the "hmm, it ain't so bad after all" category. Yet another example of an FB song sneaking up on you. I think it's the pedal steel, I'm a sucker for the sound of that thing.

Posted - 08/26/2006 : 19:44:11 FMRM is really good. Really good songwriting here. At first listen I thought it sounded a bit thrown together, but now it's obvious I was wrong. Can't pick just one song. |

Posted - 08/23/2006 : 20:14:13 Its hard enough to pick a favorite song from one of the man's albums when it has a 12 songs, let alone 27. I'm torm between "If your Poison Gets You," "Fast Man," and "The Reall el Ray." Although my favorite lyric from the album so far is from "When The Paint Grows Darker Still:"
Once I found a golden trumpet In the mash of an old landfill Now I play for the spirits When the paint grows darker still

Posted - 08/23/2006 : 12:00:33 "Fast Man" and "Sad Old World" are absolutely gorgeous. That spoken word section caught me off guard, but I loved it anyway.
It's crack. It's great. It gets you really high. |

Posted - 08/19/2006 : 02:37:27 After reading about the "prophet" Elijah, and figuring the song is referencing said prophet, the song is growing on me big time. It's kind of a return to the early days of FB/BF songwriting with heavy religous references.
Elijah, and seder, and all that stuff is pretty weird and apocalyptic. I hope I don't get to the point where Elijah is my only friend. |

Posted - 08/17/2006 : 06:13:31 Yeah, Don't Cry That Way is beautiful. I think it shows Frank at his most emotive, without being really heavy.

Posted - 08/16/2006 : 13:08:13 The poison's got me, big time. The production, the start, the chords, the playing, the chorus, the words, the frank.
Everything about the song I adore. I don't have a choice, it's just the feeling it gives me. In my eyes and ears it's fB personified. |

"I'll go a thousand miles before I get me to sleep....You think I'm exaggeratin baby that ain't nothin' to me....See me I'm gunnin it just as fast as I can....I'm a Fast Man"
Freaking Brilliant.....Thank you Mr.Black
And like old jazz greats who played music til they dropped.......Frank foreshadowed his future.... "Though I am such a foo-oo-oo-ool......If I can I'll be driving to the end"
I can't wait til Fall!

Posted - 08/06/2006 : 01:24:28 I don't have a favorite yet.
In the running...
Johnny Barleycom, Dog Sleep, When The Paint Grows Darker Still, Fitzgerald, It's Not Just Your Moment
Others:
If Your Poison Gets You, In The Time Of My Ruin and Where The Wind Is Going are all really catchy- but faded a bit for me- still really solid though.
I like every song actually. They all have a distinct style. Dirty Old Town, Golden Shore and Sad Old World, for example, reference their respective styles well.
It's an all around solid effort. I don't know if it has a true stand-out track like Honeycomb though (Sing for Joy). |

pixiestu |
Posted - 07/30/2006 : 08:32:23 No, they're not on the B-sides albums. In fact, four out of the five songs that weren't used for Honeycomb were put on the second disc of Fast Man/Raider Man (Highway to Lowdown, Kiss My Ring, Where The Wind Is Going and Fare Thee Well) though they are different versions. So there's only All Around The World that you've not heard.
I could upload All Around The World and the alternate versions of the other songs to the 'FB&C sides file section' of the forum later on if you want?

I have lots of favourites from Honeycomb but I think Sing For Joy may be the best, along with I Burn Today and Selkie Bride. All Around The World from the Honeycomb outtakes is one of my favourite songs too. Honeycomb and FMRM are both great albums.
