Posted - 05/29/2006 : 08:46:14 Never heard anyone express their undying love for this song on the forum, but I have to say its up there in my top ten/fifteen. Lyrically its magic, but what I love about it is the way it just rocks so hard for like 2 minutes, and then its over, bam! You dont know what hit you. It reminds me of The Snake in that respect. I just put Skeleton Man on for the first time in a while, and I'd forgotten how infectious it was, I soon found myself bouncing on my bed screaming and playing air guitar. What a badass song. What do you guys think?

Posted - 06/23/2006 : 01:05:49 Frank talked about the songs quite a bit, during an old acoustic show at The Mason Jar (Phoenix). He said that Skeleton Man was written about an experience up in Northern Arizona, camping out at an Indian Burial ground.

Posted - 06/14/2006 : 09:17:33 Have any of you all heard the solo version from a McCabe's show back in I think 1996? He talks about it as having rolled around in his almost-song archive for awhile. It's pretty cool to hear. I also like playing it solo. FB's got a knack for finding interesting ways to deviate from straight "rhythm guitar chord" stuff.

Hey, Hatchet. I wonder what Frank would have done if you reached up there and touched his hand? I mean,...he asked you to. |

Posted - 06/06/2006 : 01:33:56 I never really appreciated Skeleton Man until I was standing about three feet away from Frank as he performed it. Needless to say, I was blown away by it. Since then it's been a firm favourite. When the guitar plays the chords Eb Bb F, it sends shivers down my spine every time. Thanks for this one Frank!

Thanks fbc. That version is pretty darn cool but after a few listens I've decided I still prefer the Pistolero version cos its faster and rocks harder! 'Ppreciate the upload nevertheless!

Posted - 06/01/2006 : 13:52:24 Oh, I love the SKELETON MAN! When I was a child, there was a really bad, but great TV show I loved called SPACE: 1999 (which I'm sure many recall). I had an lp record of "4 Adventure Stories" put out by Peter Pan/Power Records of SPACE: 1999 stories...these included music, voiced dialogue, sound effects, etc. In one of the stories, a mutated man at the end aged rapidly until he became "a shrunken, dripping corpse" (such visuals for children!), and a main character, Helena, was seized by this corpses grasp. The narration went, word for word, "...and in his skeleton-of-a-hand was Helena's hand!"
This is what flashes through my mind whenever I hear Frank twangin' out the great song of SKELETON MAN. Hold my skeleton hand!

the pistolero version is pretty good. we tried. no one's fault but my own. the original version (instrumental) was recorded during or just after the first frank black album. it was really great. always enjoyed playing this one. some people don't like this one. anyhow. glad you like it.
frankie dude
Like it! I love it! Seriously though its a cool track, and it would be cool to hear this other version if one exists. If not, you could always play it next time you come to the UK.

Posted - 05/30/2006 : 09:32:10 I used to really hate this song. I just listened to Pistolero for the first time in a while and I can't figure out why. It's a great song, as is the album. There's not a dull moment on the album, and solid production all the way through.

Then again, I never thought much of Jet Black River either, didn't dislike, didn't love, just didn't notice. I not only realized that it's a great, great, great song, but also that it is exceedingly short. I listened to it last week like 40 times. Still making discoveries after all these years. :)
Still remember the first time I heard Skeleton Man. Gripping. Just as I similarly loved Jet Black River from the first, but I definitely know what you mean CoF about refining seemingly spent ore.
