Okay, this thread has probably been done a bizzilion times before, and I guess it's pretty pointless but hey, im bored. Anyway I thought a cool idea would be to rank Franks albums, but (get this) each album is given a certain number of points based on its position eg 1st = 10 points, 2nd = 9 points, 3rd = 8 points etc.
Then after say, 2 weeks, I add up all the points for each album and divide it by the number of people who have taken part, thus giving each album an average score eg 8.2, 4.1 or whatever.
Then, I will list Franks albums from highest score to lowest score. Okay, its not exactly scientific, and many of you might not be to happy about awarding an album that you love a low number of points, but its not a measure of how good they are, just how good they are in comparison to one another. Sounds confusing but it isn't.
Here's my two cents:

1. Show Me Your Tears (10 points)
2. Dog in the Sand (9 points)
3. Teenager of the Year (8 points)
4. Devil's Workshop (7 points)
5. Black Letter Days (6 points)
6. Frank Black (5 points)
7. Pistolero (4 points)
8. Frank Black and the Catholics (3 points)
9. Honeycomb (2 points)
10. Cult of Ray (1 point)

Ps please play along or I will look like a saddo

Some days Cult Of Ray is number one with me. Just depends on the mood. Ranking is very difficult. I have four kids. I cant imagine trying to rank which one I love the most. I love all of Frank's music.
cellar_door Posted - 08/14/2006 : 13:15:02
it's crazy how much of a gap there is between everyone's lists. The only real concensus is Teenager as #1, and cult as the lowest. But there's no way I can put cult at the bottom, some of his best work is on that album. Argh I can't make my list !
Fast Man Posted - 08/14/2006 : 12:43:22
Albums and my favortie song on each.

1. Frank Black - Brackish Boy
2. Dog In The Sand - Bullet
3. FM/RM - Holland Town
4. Teenager Of The Year - Freedom Rock
5. Show Me Your Tears - My Favorite Kiss
6. Devils Workshop - Bartholomew
7. Frank Black And The Catholics - The Man Who Was Too Loud
8. Honeycomb - Dark End Of The Street
9. Black Letter Days - 1826
10.Pistolero - I Switched You
11. Cult Of Ray - The Cult Of Ray

I agree that it is really hard to rank these. I love them all for different reasons. I can tell you that FM/RM is a huge hit at my house right now. I went and saw him in Salt Lake last week and was really bummed that he didnt play more from this great album. I mean at least he could have played Fast Man.

1. Black Letter Days (10/10)
2. Dog in the Sand (10/10)
3. Teenager of the Year (10/10)
4. Show Me Your Tears (9/10)

My votes haven't changed, but I'll add FM/RM in position #9, after DW and before Honeycomb.

10) Devil's Workshop - Heloise

Pistolero is definitely essential in my mind... not sure I can say the same thing about Fastman (just my opinion, of course... I respect what FB does and appreciate it for art's sake, but I can't quite connect to it like the others... and yeah, I've listened to it countless times and it still hasn't "grown" on me)

I felt really guilty today for ranking those albums 7-10. I know some of them have to be 7-10, but it just don't seem right.

One of the best songs on the album IMO.
