You dont have to necessarily hate the songs, just suggest a couple of songs that haven't jumped out and bit you on the ass like the rest of his catalogue. If someone put a gun to my head, I would have to say I've never liked

Man are you crazy? All those songs are great! Well the Marsist isn't that great, it's alright though. Anywho songs I don't care for:
The Vanishing Spies (it's okay, not one of my faves Fiddle Riddle I Could Stay Here Forever The Hostest With the Mostest The Last Stand of Shazeb Andleeb I Switched You I Think I'm Starting to Lose It I Want Rock & Roll Stupid Me Jaina Blues Dark End of the Street
Keep in mind the only songs I have heard of TCoR are The Marsist, Men in Black and The Last Stand. I also do not have BLD or DW. I have heard BLD and there were some songs I don't like of it, but I don't know what the hell they're called.

Posted - 05/07/2006 : 18:36:23 I always thought that was the whole point. You get built up to a crescendo after repetition. I assumed that was some kind of auditory device or maybe even gimmick, but for me it works.

It always amazes me how many people criticize Blast Off and 1826. "Oh yeah, I love Frank Black and rock and roll but when he gives me the best 3-guitars solos that ever graced the surface of this planet I skip them." Have you all been brainwashed or what?
The problem with 1826 is not the 3-guitar solos, it's the 4 minutes before them...

Posted - 05/07/2006 : 18:15:32 This kind of question really annoys me. And that in itself annoys me. I must have got out of the wrong side thismo. I am going to bite anyway. If someone put a gun to my head and said "Which Frank Black song is your least favourite?" After much deliberation, my reply would be: "You're safety is on! Kiai!" I'm sure many of you are musicians, but if you tried playing any of those songs that you say you don't like and sang along they would grow on you and your opinion would change. Well, it did for me! I'm just not a skipper. |

Very suprising.
"sing for joy" is terrible, though. 1 - 5 - 6 - 4 progressions incite me to rage. |

Posted - 05/03/2006 : 16:43:13 I can safely say, there was alot of songs on every single FB album i've listened to that i hated when i heard them first. But after a few more plays of them, i love them. EG Western star. I couldn't even listen to the intro what skipping the first few times. But now i love it.

Posted - 05/03/2006 : 11:16:03 85 Weeks is one of my faves, and I think the last four on TOTY make one of Frank's best sequences ever. Never did care for Whispering Weeds, 1826, and Tiny Heart. Not crazy about Fu Manchu or I Don't Want to Hurt You. I think Jane, The Queen of Love and Massif Centrale are overrated. Originally loved I Switched You but now sometimes skip it as too abrasive. Dark End of the Street is almost unlistenable, and Violet makes me wonder about Frank's intent. |

Posted - 04/23/2006 : 12:10:27 I'm not a huge fan of most of the early Pistolero tracks, excluding "Western Star." They're not bad, but they're all kind of similar, and they don't really show off how interesting Frank can be.
I have to agree that "1826" isn't a particularly good song, and not just because of the guitar solo. Honestly, though, I don't like extended guitar solos much. I LOVE "Blast Off," though. Possibly the best opening album track EVER. And I usually don't like it when albums start with long songs, so that's saying something. It doesn't feel anywhere near as long as it actually is.
"Jane, The Queen Of Love" is overrated, but it's not bad. As for "Fazer Eyes," I think it's my least favorite TotY track, but that's like saying someone's the world's tallest midget (apologies to TMBG).
I might skip some of these songs if they come up when I'm listening to music randomly, but I have to REALLY hate a song to skip it when I'm listening to an album in its proper sequence, and no Frank songs fall into that category. If I set out to listen to BLD, I'm jolly well going to listen to BLD, not BLD minus two or three tracks that I don't like quite as much. Besides, sometimes a song will grow on me, and I'd never know it if I skipped it every time.
