This is probably a commonly asked question but does anyone know anywhere to get a recording of FB & the Catholics doing their version of this lullaby? I know they opened many shows with it.

It's from Dylan's Self Portrait album. I was actually singing it over and over again just the other day while washing the dishes. It kind of gets like chanting after awhile.

All the tired horses in the sun
How'm I supposed to get any ridin' done? Hmm.

When Dylan wrote it, it apparently was a backlash against critics and fans who only wanted to hear him sing the same old songs over and over again. And the “riding” sounds like “writing” when sung. People interpreted it as “With all those old songs hanging over my head, that’s all people want to hear, how am I supposed to write and play new songs?”

Reading into this, Frank was playing the song before the Pixies got back together and it may have been his way of saying, “Hey, I’m doing other stuff, people” to all those who never paid all that much attention to his solo stuff and would ask him over and over again about The Pixies. But then again, at this point he was also playing a few Pixies tunes at his live shows. So, who knows.

BTW, anyone else jonesing to see Frank and the Catholics again?

Q: What is that song that plays as the band takes the stage?

A: “All the Tired Horses” by Bob Dylan. It’s on the album SELF PORTRAIT (1970).

I don't think FB&TC's ever recorded it.
