I have been a huge fan of the Pixies for quite some time and a big fan of FB's post-pixies material too. I currently own;

Frank Black
Teenager of the Year
Dog In the Sand
Pistolero
Frank Black Francis

I was wondering whther I should go out and buy the rest of his catholics stuff now, or wait till the boxset (any ideas when it's coming out?) otherwise recommend me what album to get next.

It's 'by', not 'buy'.

And he's not the real Frank. The real Frank's username is Dave Noisy.

So there. Just get your facts right, mister, I'm sick of this, now, so there.

I remember when Tower had great prices.

And Virgin Megastore jacks prices up $2 - $3 over manufacturer's suggested price. For instance, the 'SoundSaver', 'SuperSaver', and 'Niceprice' lines MSRP is $11.98...cost for these are usually between $6 - $8 based on the retail company (mom and pop stores generally pay the higher end). Virgin has the gall to charge anywhere up to $12.99 - $13.99. Sure their electric bill is higher, but come on.

Tower is creeping into that territory.

Tower Records started in Sacramento, California. The original one is still there next to the Tower Theater.

Virgin opened a megastore in Sacramento maybe 5 years ago even though Sacramento isn't that big of a town. The rumor was they did it to symbolically attack Tower's base. It closed down this year because it wasn't profitable.

Being honest, I didn't exactly go google it to find out or anything. I know they're in Ireland because I live there, and I know they're i n england because their stickers say "tower.co.uk" on them. But I guess your right, it was jsut an assumptian anyway

You need CULT OF RAY . It's one of his best record. I don't understand why people don't like it.

You've pretty much got all you need right now, actually. But, if you want to get more, I'd suggest The Peel Sessions EP.

Actually it went to spinART here in the U.S. first, but was released in Europe on the partner Cooking Vinyl label before U.S. released it.

Actually, the first label to release it in Europe was Play It Again Sam. Cooking Vinyl puts it out in Europe now, presumably because the licensing agreement with Play It Again Sam expired and then Cooking Vinyl picked it up (maybe similar to the What Are Records-then-SpinART release of DOG IN THE SAND).

The first FB and THE C's album was finished by at least summer of 1997. Those of us reading sites like The Black Vault at the time were pretty frustrated at the news of a new album with no label or release date in sight, though we'd hoped that some of the attention Frank Black was attracting again due to the release of the DEATH TO THE PIXIES compilation (along with his first interviews in years where he didn't seem to avoid talking about the Pixies) would get things going. The news also made it sound like the Catholics were a new band (and not just the same band that played on THE CULT OF RAY).

FRANK BLACK & THE CATHOLICS finally came out in Europe in the Spring of 1998 (preceded by an "All My Ghosts" single a few weeks earlier) with no sign of a US release so some of us Frank fans in America had to go out hunting for import copies. A few months later, the American release on SpinART (for September or October of 1998) was announced.

And it wasn't really considered a 'demo' until a producer at AMERICAN RECORDINGS said it was "the best sounding demo" he'd ever heard. But based on sales of Cult of Ray, AR dropped Frank. He then peddled it and spinART took interest. And hooray for that!

if your just staying with fbtc then cult of ray would be next...but every fan must have and listen to surfer rosa on a regular basis. Its amazing what impact that album hadf on rock and roll. most new bands wish they could construct an album half as good

Hmmm, it looks like you've got all of the key beginner albums, so for the next one, I'll have to recommend my personal favourite, Black Letter Days. Then get Devil's Workshop, Cult of Ray, Show Me Your Tears, and Honeycomb in that order.

I agree with Daisy, they are all good. Was a huge Pixies fan and probably listened to Teenager everyday for 2 years after it came out. After buying Cult of Ray, I missed out on the early Catholics until Black Letter Days and Devil's Workshop. From there I believe I bought or downloaded from I-Tunes every Frank Black and the Catholics album as well as a few live concerts I found on the internet (if there are more available, please let me know although I dont know much about torrent).

Go buy them all! Now! put it in your car and turn it up! FB and the C's have the best driving music I have ever heard. I am sorry that I wasted so many years between COR and BLD listening to other garbage wishing there was something good out there or for a Pixies reunion.

first post pixies album i bought was black letter days. i think its his best. its also one of my favorite albums period. but anything by frank black is good. if you find oddballs or cult of ray buy them, just cause they are hard to come by. but dont spend a fortune on them yet.
