Nice one, Scalzo!Just listened to Sister Isabel on my iPod and thought that that's a mighty fine love song. Can't compete with Jesus.

Selkie Bride and Speedy Marie are my favorite Frank Black love songs, but if we're counting Pixies songs then I think Velouria and Letter to Memphis.

Hello Japan? Could you connect me to Godzilla please?

Places named after numbers. A different kind of love, i guess.

[warning: this one gets a little mushy, I can't help it, blame it on the right side]

Yeah I know, I like that one, it's a good one to listen to while you're getting deeply intimate with your significant other, you know, when you get all tangled up, on top, underneath, twisted together sideways, and when this song comes on you look even deeper into each other's eyes and you see her with all the layers stripped away, a warm, open, soothing love, Mmmmmmmmmm, that's nice

[edit: by the way, I've never done that before while listening to Hey, Doolittle is not exactly a mood setter for that. I've gotten close with Honeycomb though]

Alright, back on topic,

Here's probably one of Frank's all-time greatest love songs, a song about a guy that won't give up on the one he loves, no matter how many times she leaves him, not once, not twice, but 7 times she leaves and 12 times he goes and gets her

I WILL RUN AFTER YOU

"...Wouldn’t look for another love, no
Listen if you leave
Tell you what I do

If you leave (x7)

I will run after you (x12)"

lovin it cause...on this, track #4 from FSLS Disc I, Frank shows his vulnerable side...Get a hold of yourself Man! If she runs once, she's likely to run again.

(by the way, it's pretty cool/optimistic how Frank sings "if you leave" x11 and "I will Run After You" x12, as long as she keeps running, Frank's gonna run one more time to get her back. Persistent son of a bitch, huh.)

I know, life's hard enough without me.

Is Hey! a love song? Is South Bay? Sometimes I hear So. Bay
as a love song, but that's just my associations with that

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank

Hey Babe, I was reading back over these posts from last January and noticed you never finished your story,

So, what's your love story associated with the neighborhood of so. bay?

Certainly not one of those "and they lived happily ever after", but most good love songs aren't about the good times, are they?

I found this in the FB song data base, where Frank is quoted as saying"...I think on that one I actually researched the name Helloise, to see what came up. I just punched it up on a search engine, and there she was. A nun! Not a nun, she was a pupil of some priest guy, and they had a kid, they took the kid away from her and they castrated the guy and they both retreated back into religious lives, but they wrote to each other, love letters for the rest of their lives, and when they both finally passed away they were buried next to each other in some Paris cemetery. There you go. Gee, I wonder what I should write about?"

I always thought "Back to Rome" was great. Not exactly a lovey dovey type of song but nevertheless a song about the trials of love.

Yeah, I said it was hilarious and it is, but I suppose there is an element of sadness, but only in a sentimental type way, unless you're talking about "Blue Lagoon" and yes, that's tragically sad.

and "Pure Denizen Of The Citizens Band", which is not a love song.

I love the visuals I get from this one:

The wanting is there
But there is nothing left to go on

Ok, I Will Run AFter You is probably one of Frank's greatest love songs but I forgot about this one,

SELKIE BRIDE

I always thought the singer was telling his oceanic love creature to leave him the hell alone, until I was enlightened by Kathryn:

"Selkies (also known as silkies or selchies) are mythological creatures in Irish and Scottish mythology that can transform themselves from seals to humans. The legend apparently originated in the Orkney Islands, where "selkie" is simply the Orcadian word for "seal".
Selkies are able to become humans by shedding their seal skins, and can revert to seal form by putting the skins back on. Stories concerning selkies are generally romantic tragedies. A human and a selkie fall in love, but after a while the selkie becomes restless, and decides to return to the sea. Sometimes the human will not know that their lover is a selkie, and wakes to find them gone. Other times the human will hide the selkie's skin, thus preventing them from returning to seal form."
