I'm happy this is happening for everyone! I had the good fortune to hear Superabound back with the Catholics, I'm sure this is going to be a lot of fun for all involved!

Agreed about the Pixie, songs; heck, I figure for Frank it's going to be fun to have a break from those.

Cheers

I went to a Stephen Malkmus solo concert a few years ago. The crowd was totally anemic (as always in Paris), and then for the last song of the encore he played Summer Babe and suddenly all those 45-years old bald guys started dancing and shouting the lyrics. I hated the whole evening.

Sounds awful, and I love Malkmus

No, beyond the press release confirming the album will be played "in full'. Plus by adding the fifth band member (Rob Laufer) on additional keys, bass and guitar, it looks like we'll be getting a more faithful replication of the album than those 94/95 dates.

Reid Paley opening for the Teenager of the Year shows.

Zzzzzz. Great. Saw him open for Frank at a solo show years ago. Really disliked it. Don't understand Frank's infatuation with this guy.

Ditto

I think I saw him open for FBF at LPR and everyone there was checking their watches

Solo acts I’d rather see open for Frank:

Hey folks, it's been a minute.

Looking forward to seeing some of y'all at the Brooklyn show. I'd love to gather all the old heads together for a pre-show beverage if anyone is up for it.

Missed seeing this until now. Working to figure out where in the US would be best for me. Brooklyn sounds like it would be amazing but alas probably will have to look at maybe Chicago. Gotta pinch myself to believe it’s true. Missed original TOTY tour but the COR follow up tour was still incredible.

First setlist for those interested: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/frank-black/2025/the-fillmore-san-francisco-ca-1b54391c.html

Looks good - begins with a few from FB, goes through the entirety of TOTY, then does a short dip back into FB. No TOTY b-sides like I was predicting, but I'll be happy with full band FB numbers.

Interesting to see no amps onstage for these shows. Lyle using his IK Multimedia TONEX amp modeller, and presumably the rest of the band have similar equipment.

Bit of background to his rig here:

That's the go to set-up for a lot of big bands these days. It's bizarre, but I've been to prog rock shows where there's not an amp in sight. Does make balance and mixing easier and digital effects and amp mods these days are pretty solid

Absolutely - and with in ear monitors commonplace now, the technology works well together.

If you can get, say, an 'authentic' cranked vintage AC30 sound without blowing up amps every couple of shows, then you can see the appeal...

Yeah, it's not a big deal really but takes some getting used to for traditionalists.

There would be budget benefits also. Getting a big stadium sound without a huge stage crew. For FB solo stuff it would give him a better profit margin.

We went to the Orpheum gig last night, it was a fantastic show. I think they opened with 2 songs from the first album, then played Teenager in its entirety and finished up with a couple more songs from the first album. This is the first show that I’ve seen with no amps on stage, it made the stage look huge with just the 5 guys playing, the sound was a little bottom end heavy, but sounded really good.

I probably saw Frank 20 times during his solo career and the reformed Pixes a handful of times. We saw them last year at the Hollywood Bowl, they sounded okay, but goddamn it was boring. Last night was anything but boring, I was ready to hear a couple more songs even though it was past my old man bedtime. I was pretty convinced that I would never see another FB show after he said that he was done with that for financial reasons, so last night was really a treat!

Yes; they had some very pricey merch, so I did not bite. $40.00 T-shirts and $80.00 hood8es.

These really are great setlists too.

To have songs from the first FB album bookending TOTY in its entirety. This is amazing.

The Toronto show was great - FBF admitted that he and some band members had come down with "Flu variant A," but admirably battled through it with the help of some hot tea (though you could tell from the between song banter that he was running on fumes). It's amazing seeing how poised and efficient Nick Vincent's drum playing is even during his most complex and demanding parts, and how Lyle Workman's guitar is basically an extension of himself. Charles wasn't kidding when talking about playing with this band being like getting the keys to a maserati.

Well the Brooklyn show was one of the best concerts I've ever been to in my entire life. I've never seen Frank be so passionate and have so much fun and joy playing music before. I've never seen Lyle Workman before but he was absolutely incredible and hilarious. The show blew my mind. The best part was everybody in the audience singing along to every song. Incredible.
