Yes. Honestly it's so much more satisfying to me to have one awesome album than a bunch that have some good songs and a lot of mediocre stuff. Probably the only newer Pixies albums i feel like revisiting sometimes are BTE and that demo album.

In comparison a band like My Bloody Valentine. They released like 1 album in the last 15 years or something? But it's a quality shoegaze album and is still enjoyable to revisit.

As to this thread- I'm really enjoying Kim's album. I always appreciate how she sticks to the indie sound ethos over the years. Makes her albums enjoyable for me to listen to and revisit over the years.

Perhaps one should try having a baby and then listening to the song Nobody Loves You More. The tears will come.

So we’re trading five 2.0 albums plus B-sides and singles for 12 songs? That’s a big trade to make, but the 1.0 quality is hard to argue with.

If we applied this to all FBF albums and asked how many of those would we condense / trade for a couple more masterpieces, we would have what, 8-9 albums to the man’s credit as opposed to the twenty something we actually have (check my math)

I’m not sure I would make the trades, but I can see why some would

Back to Kim’s album, I really dig it, and her mainstream Breeders stuff too, but like FBF I don’t believe she has reached Pod level quality in anything she’s done since

One more thing - “Don’t split your sails over me” on Who’s More Sorry Now, and Kim is on the water on the cover of Nobody Loves You More

To be clear I do appreciate that Frank Black releases so much music. I still look forward to his work. Even Pixies albums that some might rate lower I still find songs I like in it.

I don't think maybe a bit of a different approach could hurt tho if they ever wanted to try that, whether that be marinating songs a little more or getting a more indie producer on board, etc.

Kim is awesome but nobody will mistake Title TK, Mountain Battles, All Nerve or even Pacer for Pod or Last Splash

She's a lot cooler than Frank and Pixies nowadays
But she suffers from the same unfair competition with her own magical classics

It's all ok. I'm happy they are still releasing great records.

Me too, Christmas came early for sure. Two absolutely fantastic albums that I can't stop listening to from start to finish.

And with solo FBF shows on the horizon, this is probably the best time to be a Frank fan since when I was seeing him in the 90s

I only got into Kim's music recently and those all seem the same to me. In fact I think Pod is my least favorite.

Yeah I'd say very few of Kim's discs / songs do the "grower" thing - pretty much feel the same after decades

Frank's of course are the epitome of "meh" --> "cool" --> "amazing" --> "one of my favorites"

My top 5 of Kim's output would be:

Pod
Title TK
Last Splash
All Nerve
Pacer

I like the Breeders, but it's more on par with lower tier Frank Black for me. The kind of thing I enjoy for a while then pretty much never feel the need to revisit. Though honestly and in fairness, I haven't really given anything post-Title TK much of a chance.

You should, amazing songs on all those post-Title TK records.

To me Kim never really takes any chances. Which is ok. I like her style.
The new one sounds fresher than anything she did post Pacer.

The Kim Deal album is outstanding. I can listen to it 3 times in a row, and more if I had the occasion. The latest Breeders album was boring (appart from the song sung by Josephine Wiggs) but this one is better than anything she produced before and yes... far better than the latest Pixies productions, I'm afraid.
