In a good way? I think it's the weakest track, the rhyming of fervent/servant etc sounds so trite.

In a good way.
I was listening to Bullet the other day and thinking what a great song it was and then realized "son" and "sun" were just rhymed. Kind of lame if you want to analyze things, but dammit it still works and is a great song.
(Same goes for "vision" and "television" in Distance Equals Rate Times Time) |

The worst-rhyming Frank Black song ever has to be I Need Peace. Yet, it's still a great song.

This rhyme hurts me:
Every pickle comes from cucumber You don't have to act appalled Where's my door and where is my number I'm lost in these halls
And all of this for nuthin', after all my huffin' and puffin'. |

I always have a laugh at "At the museum I met a curator/She was so nice, I thought I would date her".
And now to counter the negativity of the last few posts, here are the lyrics to True Blue, in all their glory:
In a little while I’m gonna do some wanderin’ In a little while so let’s pass the narghile In a little while one more road for the hit In a little while find a place for my mind to settle In a little while like a crocodile In a little while
Though some things have gotten small I’ve grown tall that’s for sure Other things have disappeared It’s not clear what endures
In a little while I’m gonna lose this useless smile In a little while I’ll write you in an old wine bottle In a little while I think I’m finally used to it In a little while I do believe I’m here to stay In a little while like diamond back terrapin In a little while
They call me true blue I’m walking now crawling I hear her voice calling I’m falling into you Now through you I’m with you I’m with you

well, yeah, it's good and I like the piano, but I can't get over the rhyming, kind of like some people can't get over tattoos on women.

Re Obedient Servant - the lyric "live in my shadow" is really powerful I think. It can be taken as superior or inferior, depending on how you interpret. Brilliant stuff.

"she lost her head even when she was giving head" - lou reed
I think for the most part great song writers don't follow the rules. and I'm okay with rhyming a word with the same word. is that still called rhyming? I don't even know.
and i do believe (imho) "me-uh vision" does rhyme with "tel-uh vision"

Yeah, enough with the youtube jokes Roy. Thankfully they're kind of burried in the mix. Round 2 of Golem Survivor is up for anyone interested.

darwin, you have to listen to the live discs. I'm not a big fan of live albums, and I kinda feared the emcee thing after what people reported, but actually the live version is very strong. Not very different than the studio version but with great idea, and Zimmerman is buried in the mix as B_F said and he doesn't talk that much (I'd say he has about 10 lines in the whole recording). Plus, it's quite unbelievable to listen to the live discs knowing it was their first and last show. The band is super tight.

Not to nitpick, but it was actually their second show. Ralph Carney told us when we interviewed him that the night before that show they did a midnight, unannounced show at Cafe du Nord in SF, where they hung a bedsheet and projected the film while the band played. THAT is a show i'd give a pinky to see.

To be fair, i don't know if we used that piece on the podcast. To be unfair, you should listen - if not for us, for the music at least.

After a couple of weeks, I'd say this might be one of my favourite things Frank has ever created. It's not quite an album (like FB or Bluefinger), but it's also not just a couple of songs he rounded up and released. There's something about this project that really works for me and that I can't see getting tired of. Love 'The obediant servant'. I know it has a melody and vibe that's similar to some songs he released in the past, but this particular one is just perfect. BTW, what does "Custom all the way" mean? Is it a figure of speech or something? |

People, my girlfriend just got me a copy. Actually, she got it a few weeks back and decided to give it to me during our holiday last week. I believe it's number 437. Will post photo's later. Amazing record! I believe my criticism was more based on the fact that I couldn't afford it, than on the music.
