I couldn't get here for 2 days, is there a note about that somewhere?
I tried going to dnsstuff.com and it said there were no A records (way too technical for me). |

I wasn't able to get to this site, forum or homepage, for the whole saturday (didn't check friday). Then, one last try before going to bed, and all was back to normal. First I suspected it was a problem on my end, but now that others report the same problem, maybe not.
Still not able to log out, btw. |

Take away my Google, my news, my Amazon, my iTunes ... but please, Lord, don't shut down my fb.net forum for so long again. Seriously, this was a reminder that this forum is an important destination for many of us. Thanks to Dean -- or whomever -- for getting it up and running again.

Heh, don't worry - we're not going anywhere soon. :) I've put too much work into the place to let it disappear.

The forum was out for a day and a half? Was it more "technical stuff"?
Man, the withdrawal can be a bitch sometimes.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

More server stuff. I've been notified we'll be jumping ship from that server which means we'll have to get our own and that Dave Noisy will be dropping his involvement from the site. Not good news, it's not gonna' be cheap and we have no funds. But we'll get something sorted out and get back to everyone on this when we're closer to that point. Bad timing, that's for sure.

I've heard about these things on the Internet where people around the world share their computer's processing power when they're not using it, to benefit cancer research or whatever. Is there also this kind of sharing for websites -- in lieu of using an actual server? So the files would exist on dozens of computers (all hooked to the Internet, of course) around the world? Just a thought.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Will do, I know Dave wants it done ASAP but unfortunately I had my laptop stolen and it's not possible until I get a new one. I need money to do this, which I'm hoping to start making in Perth soon, and then we'll see. But Brian and I are thinking a fundraising campaign or something to give you guys something back for helping keep FB.Net alive. Ideas welcome at this point. :)

Sorry to hear about your laptop Dean. That sucks.
Maybe doing an ebay acution of some Frank stuff on ebay similar to the one we did for sarah spinart? I know that will take $, people and time so I don't know how practical that is given that the resources are spread so thin. Or maybe you could auction off stuff like being a co-host of a pod cast or something. perhaps people on fb.net could make/donate the items. Like maybe Czar would auction off a tshirt he makes and jimmy could donate one of his "friends" paintings. That way there would be two ways to contribute... to donate an item or to buy an item.
Another idea is to just pass the hat....I am sure that people will be happy to chip in like we have in the past.
How much $$$ do you need to raise?

Yeah, finding out what it'll cost is step one for sure. We pay about $500/year for a server now, I'm hoping/quite sure we can find it cheaper but I'm not sure what our demands are. I know we get a LOT of traffic, far more than even I would have guessed. We may have to be on a dedicated server and that could cost even more. But I'll let you know when I know.

I don't like that idea if the person is someone who may not use that power well. It depends on who it is.
I would prefer it if we all chipped in.

That's great, $10 to turn the ads off, that's pretty smart.
When I was first thinking of setting up a website I found this host locally, but they don't say how much extra transfer is (and their search engine doesn't work).
If you wanted to do the PBS thing, like the $50 level gets you..., I may be able to help out. |

Yeah, for $50 you can get a DVD of John Tish playing at Red Rocks. I hate my local PBS. Whenever they need money all the decent shows go away and the bad baby-boomer music gets center stage.
PS I would be happy pledge some money if there's a plan. |

If you pledge $20 a forum member of your choice is banned for a week (all money pooled)?
$20 = 1 Week $40 = 2 Weeks $80 = 3 Weeks $160 = 4 Weeks $320 = 5 Weeks
For a mere $45,035,996,273,705,000.00 you could ban KOK for a year.
