Been listening to tons of new stuff lately- I got myself a radio DJ gig and there's a required amount of new music I need to play. my favorite rock albums from this year so far (not counting Pixies of course) are the ones from Black Midi, The Wolfmanhattan Project (they're a new supergroup!), Rosalie Cunningham, Uranium Club, and Earth.

Oh, and Nick Cave is releasing a new album friday so I am listening to his back catalogue and the Birthday Party again. You can totally hear the Birthday Party influence in Pixies and later Nick Cave influence on Beneath the Eyrie.

-----------------------
Q: Where do Pixies keep their instruments when they're not playing?
A: Debasement.

Sweet Jeepster! Thanks for sharing and congratulations on the new gig.

I just discovered Croatian Amor and it is really fixing my craving for moody creepy beautiful freaky dreamy (yes I’m about to say it) Lynchian type stuff.

Neil Young has a new album coming out this month. He's released two songs off of It so far. Been enjoying them quite a bit. He's an American treasure (despite being Canadian).

You might borrow their guitarist's screwdriver then. He found plectrums wanting.

Listened to the new Nick Cave album Ghosteen but didn't really enjoy it. Same with Skeleton Tree. I appreciate the lyrics and poetry but I have no great desire to listen to it again. I think their recent stuff has been less Bad Seeds and more just Nick and Warren Ellis. I prefer the Mick Harvey material.

I love the artwork! Not sure if that's a real or digital painting though.

I was listening to it this morning with my mum and she says: "It's a bit depressing this"

That's Nick Cave for you. Anyway, I like it (if only because the artwork complements my perception of it in a dreamlike positive way)

I've always found Nick Cave's stuff kind of listen and leave really. Have to be in the right mood, and place(drunk/stoned in a forest usually does it)

I feel exactly the same but am happy if he's happy. He lost a son before recording Skeleton Tree. In any case he's had such a long career of consistent brilliance that he's earned every bit of slack he gets.

Yeah the artwork is great! Anything Nick Cave does I want to like, Grinderman, Lawless soundtrack and the movie The Proposition were all great. I suppose when you've been in the game as long as he has and gone through as much as he has then you have the right to release whatever you want.

I'm just a bit surprised with the number of 10 out of 10 reviews mostly. I remember reading a review for the best of album released in 90's where the reviewer asked why he wasn't very very famous and celebrated, I'm glad that perception has changed (if it was ever really true) and is receiving credit for his work now.

Same here. I've been listening to it a ton the last week. Lots of good songs on there. And that last track -- wow. That's how you close an album.

I don't know a great deal about her. She seems to have a high guitar reputation (like St. Vincent), but on live videos from this album she doesn't seem to play much.

Annie Clark is a nice guitar player but she doesn't play so much live any more either. She went a bit lamely megafamous after this album, which I consider her peak

Recommend anything and everything by Cate le Bon. This is my favourite track off Crab Day

A friend of mine at uni (He took German. I took French) went up to Cave in our local pub and started a conversation in German thinking he spoke some German having lived and worked in Berlin. Realising Cave spoke no German he got offended and told Cave off for not showing proper respect to his hosts. Cave just sat there dumbfounded. I wish Kleist had put that little nugget into his graphic novel.
